PSV Eindhoven face a tough start to their Europa League campaign when they host Real Sociedad on Thursday night.
The Spanish side are the 11/10 favourites to win Group B so PSV must hit the ground running if they are to pick up points in their opener.
The odds suggest there is little to choose between the two teams with PSV having home advantage and instead we’re backing over 2.5 goals at 8/11 as our opening PSV vs Real Sociedad prediction.
A Look At PSV Eindhoven’s Betting Odds
PSV will begin their Europa League campaign full of confidence after a flying start in the Eredivisie.
Four straight wins and 14 goals scored means PSV are the early leaders in the Dutch top flight, two points clear of Ajax who are the only other unbeaten team.
There have already been nine different goalscorers in the league so there are plenty of attacking options and there was much to like about the way they eased past Galatasaray and Midtjylland in Champions League qualifying.
They fell just short against Benfica, though, losing the away leg 2-1 and then dominating the return fixture but being held to a goalless draw.
PSV bounced back from that disappointment with a 5-2 thrashing of Groningen which was followed by a 3-0 win at AZ Alkmaar at the weekend.
Scoring goals is rarely an issue and 11/5 for Roger Schmidt’s men to score in both halves looks a worthy pick from the PSV vs Real Sociedad odds.
A Look At Real Sociedad’s Betting Odds
Going for goals may not seem the obvious tactic given Sociedad have kept three successive clean sheets in La Liga.
All three of those resulted in victories which mean Sociedad have made a solid start in fourth but each win was against teams in the bottom half of the table.
The season opener at the Nou Camp highlighted their limitations, with Barcelona racing into a 3-0 lead inside an hour and eventually winning 4-2 in their first match after the departure of Lionel Messi to PSG.
Mikel Oyarzabal was on the scoresheet for Sociedad that day and his brace against Cadiz at the weekend means he has four goals in La Liga; only Karim Benzema has more with five.
With the potential for a high-scoring game, let’s take a chance on either team to come from behind to win at 11/2 as our final PSV vs Real Sociedad prediction.
