Arsenal v Bayern Munich: Gunners tipped to restore some pride

Arsenal face what looks to be mission impossible in trying to overturn a 5-1 first-leg deficit when they entertain Bayern Munich in the Champions League, but the Gunners could be a fair price at 2/1 to salvage some pride with a home win.

Goals from Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil helped Arsene Wenger’s side prevail 2-0 against Bayern at Emirates Stadium in the group stage last season and they will be determined not to go out with whimper.

A Look At Arsenal’s Betting Odds

Wenger admitted Arsenal’s crushing defeat at Allianz Arena turned into a “nightmare” as the German giants banged in three goals during a decisive 11-minute spell in the second half, but the visitors had more than held their own up until that point.

Having gone behind early on, Alexis Sanchez missed a golden opportunity to equalise when a weak penalty attempt was saved and, after the Chile star had levelled on 30 minutes, the English side had two decent chances to edge ahead just before half-time.

Despite what happened after the break, it isn’t a stretch to say things would have been much different if Arsenal had started the second period in front and they can take heart from two past victories against Bayern in their previous five meetings.

A Look At Bayern Munich’s Betting Odds

Bayern Munich may be powering towards a fifth straight Bundesliga title and have one foot in the quarter-finals of this competition, but they have faltered a few times on the road this term.

It is easy to forgive 1-0 defeats at Borussia Dortmund in their domestic top flight and at Atletico Madrid during their European group, but a 3-2 loss to Rostov in Russia that cost them pole position in that pool is much easier to pick holes in.

Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged “Arsenal are a dangerous team, especially on the counter attack” and we like 3/1 for the Gunners to prevail and over 2.5 goals to be scored in the game, while 23/4 for a correct score of 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 is another fancy in the hope that the visitors just let their guard down.
