Cameroon vs Egypt: Hosts can overcome Salah threat

Cameroon will hope home advantage gives them the edge when they face fellow former Africa Cup of Nations champions Egypt in the second semi-final on Thursday.

Both teams know what it takes to go all the way in this tournament but Cameroon have the added incentive of lifting the trophy on home soil.

They have also been the more impressive of the two teams on their way to the last four so we’re backing them for victory in 90 minutes at 2.15 as our first Cameroon vs Egypt prediction.

Cameroon Odds

Cameroon have made serene progress to the semi-finals and will head into Thursday’s match full of confidence.

The Indomitable Lions won their group with seven points and seven goals before a 2-1 win against Comoros in the round of 16 was followed by a 2-0 victory over Gambia in the quarter-finals.

Cameroon dominated the first half against Gambia and were unfortunate not to be ahead at the break before Karl Toko Ekambi’s quick-fire double early in the second half saw the hosts take control.

Toko Ekambi brilliantly headed his team in front after 50 minutes, glancing in from Collins Fai’s right-wing cross.

Seven minutes later the Lyon forward struck again at the back post following Martin Hongla’s low delivery, while Gambia managed only two attempts at goal in the entire match.

The one concern for Cameroon is that was their first clean sheet of the tournament but they appear to have the firepower to make up for issues in defence.

Looking at the Cameroon vs Egypt odds, the hosts to win and both teams to score may be worth the extra risk at 5.50.

Egypt Odds

Egypt have been much less impressive and have ridden their luck to get this far so it is easy to see why they have been priced up as underdogs here.

They began with a 1-0 defeat against Nigeria before 1-0 wins against Guinea and Sudan saw them qualify for the knockout stage.

A 0-0 draw with the Ivory Coast meant they needed a penalty shootout to advance to the quarter-finals where they also had to play extra time before scraping past Morocco 2-1.

Mohamed Salah’s equaliser cancelled out Sofiane Boufal’s early penalty opener for Morocco, with the Liverpool forward setting up Trezeguet for the extra-time winner.

Egypt’s haul of just four goals so far is disappointing for a team containing Salah and highlights the lack of attacking quality around him.

Salah will undoubtedly be a threat but ultimately Cameroon should prove too strong. With that in mind, we’re tempted by Salah to score first but his team to lose the match at 34.00 for the last of our Cameroon vs Egypt betting tips.
