Denmark suffered a frustrating loss to Croatia on Friday but are still top of Nations League Group A1 and can get back on track by beating Austria.
The Danes have won the last four head-to-head meetings, including two Qatar World Cup qualifiers and last week’s Vienna success in this pool.
We reckon 1.95 for a home victory is a solid bet for our first Denmark vs Austria prediction.
Denmark Odds
Denmark kicked off their campaign with a couple of 2-1 away wins, upsetting France in Paris and edging out Austria at Ernst-Happel-Stadion.
They went into the clash with Croatia at this venue on a run of six consecutive home victories but were undone by Mario Pasalic’s scrambled 69th-minute strike.
The Danes had two goals disallowed and were much the better team in the first half, but Croatia did come on strong after introducing Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic at the break.
“We fought hard and it was a tough game,” Christian Eriksen told UEFA. “I think the first and the second half were two very different halves.
“In the first half, we had a lot of the ball and created a lot of chances – only the last pass missed to really open the game up.
“With Luka and Kovacic coming on, that changed the possession and we didn’t really have the intensity to get the ball back.”
That was only the second time in 17 international matches that Denmark failed to score, but they have the experience in key areas not to dwell on the defeat.
Looking at the Denmark vs Austria odds, bwin have a tempting price boost of 3.6 for a home win and over 2.5 goals.
Austria Odds
It will be a surprise to many to see Austria in second place after picking up four points from their other two fixtures.
Ralf Rangnick enjoyed a dream start to his reign with a 3-0 win in Croatia and Friday’s 1-1 home draw with France was another fine effort.
Andreas Weimann opened the scoring on 37 minutes, finishing off a good move to grab his first international goal.
However, Kylian Mbappe fired in a superb 83rd-minute equaliser on the break and was then only denied a winner by Patrick Pentz and the crossbar.
Austria Vienna keeper Pentz also did well to stop Matteo Guendouzi’s header as Les Bleus dominated the closing stages.
He commented: “I have to admit that we were a bit lucky. In the second half, we were lacking power.”
Fatigue will play a part in this contest, as each team completes a busy schedule of four matches in 11 days, and that is where home advantage may prove crucial.
