Arsenal vs Newcastle prediction, odds & betting tips

Kick-off: 1945, 03/01/2023

Stadium: Emirates Stadium

TV: Sky Sports

Arsenal are fancied to come through another examination of their Premier League title credentials when entertaining Newcastle.

The Magpies are enjoying a fine campaign themselves but must overcome an Emirates Stadium hoodoo, having lost on their last 11 visits to this venue.

We’re sticking with the Gunners at 82/100 for our first Arsenal vs Newcastle prediction.

Arsenal Odds

Arsenal extended their advantage at the top of the table to seven points when romping to a 4-2 triumph at Brighton.

Goals from Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli helped the Gunners to secure a fifth straight top-flight success.

Mikel Arteta is not getting carried away with talk of a first title since 2004, stating: “It’s a big win at a really tough place to come, but there’s still a long, long run to go.

“My excitement comes when I go in the dressing room and the players are talking about what they should have done better today.

“That means they know that we can still play better and be better – and against Newcastle, we have to be better.”

Arsenal have dropped just five points in 16 games and have shown they can grind it out in tight tussles or fight fire with fire in open contests.

We feel Newcastle will adopt a positive approach and have their moments here, but the Gunners can power to an eighth consecutive home victory.

Looking at the 23/10 for the hosts to prevail and both teams to score.

Last Arsenal line-up: Ramsdale, White, Gabriel, Saliba, Zinchenko, Partey, Odegaard, Xhaka, Saka, Martinelli, Nketiah.

Defender Takehiro Tomiyasu returned from injury as a second-half substitute at Brighton and could be involved once again. Forwards Gabriel Jesus (knee) and Reiss Nelson (hamstring) remain sidelined. Emile Smith Rowe (groin) is closing in on a return and will be assessed.

Newcastle United Odds

Newcastle’s hot streak of six straight Premier League wins was halted by a goalless stalemate versus Leeds at St James’ Park.

On a rain-soaked afternoon, the Magpies had 16 attempts on goal but it was unfortunate that their best chances fell to defenders.

Fabian Schar passed up no fewer than three promising opportunities and Dan Burn missed his kick with the goal at his mercy.

Eddie Howe commented: “They’ve given everything today, in tough conditions against a tough opponent.

“We’ve created the chances and sometimes football works that way, you just can’t score, for whatever reason.

“When you’re free-flowing – and we have been previously – suddenly one week you look like you can’t score.

“The most important thing is we didn’t lose the game in trying to chase it and the players’ commitment was there for everyone to see.

“I thought all that was missing was the finish. We created a number of opportunities, but it wasn’t to be.”

United have only failed to score in four of 17 top-flight fixtures this term and their sole defeat came at Liverpool.

The scoreline that day was 2-1 and 29/4 for a repeat result here is worth adding to our Arsenal vs Newcastle betting tips.

Let’s also take 3/1 for Saka to score in a home win, as he has netted in both games since the World Cup break and struck in the last couple of encounters with the Magpies at this venue.

Last Newcastle line-up: Pope, Trippier, Botman, Schar, Burn, Willock, Longstaff, Guimaraes, Joelinton, Wood, Almiron.

Callum Wilson will hope for further action after being used only as a substitute versus Leeds following his recovery from illness. However, full-back Matt Targett is facing a spell out with a heel injury, joining defender Emil Krafth (knee) and midfielder Jonjo Shelvey (calf).
