Ahead of Sunday’s big ceremony, we’re taking a look at the latest 2023 Oscars odds to see where bookmakers believe this year’s major gongs will be going.
All eyes will be on the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood for the 95th Academy Awards, which will be hosted by US comedian and talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel.
American comedy-drama Everything Everywhere All At Once received 11 nominations altogether and is a red-hot 1/10 favourite to be named Best Picture.
Co-directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are 1/12 to clean up in that category and Ke Huy Quan is 1/50 for Best Supporting Actor.
However, these leading categories offer punters a better opportunity of picking out some more tempting Oscars odds:
Best Actor
Ireland’s Colin Farrell is 14/1 third favourite after scooping his first Oscar nomination in this section.
He stars in The Banshees Of Inisherin and the 46-year-old said: “Just so grateful to the Academy for all the love it’s shared with the Banshees’ cast and crew.
“Also, beyond honoured to be lumped together with my fellow nominees. A heartfelt congratulations to all the lads.”
Compatriot Paul Mescal is 50/1 to get the nod for Aftersun and English veteran Bill Nighy is a 66/1 outsider for his role in Living.
Brendan Fraser has been steady as the 3/5 market leader for starring as an overweight, reclusive English teacher in The Whale.
However, there has been plenty of buzz around Austin Butler, who was cut from 13/4 to 6/5 after landing one of four Baftas for Baz Luhrmann’s biopic Elvis.
Accepting the prize on stage, Butler paid tribute to the Presley family for their involvement in the film, saying: “I cannot thank you enough for your love…this means the world to me.”
Best Actress
Australian-born Cate Blanchett was the early favourite for her part as a renowned conductor in psychological drama Tar.
The 53-year-old received her fifth nomination in this category, having won with Blue Jasmine a decade ago, while she was also voted best supporting actress in 2004 for The Aviator.
Tar has received huge critical acclaim and Blanchett is still a front-runner at 9/10.
However, Michelle Yeoh has been promoted to the market leader at 4/5 for Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Yeoh stars as a Chinese-American immigrant in a movie which includes elements of surreal comedy, science fiction, fantasy, martial arts and animation.
She won in the gender-neutral best leading performance category at this month’s Film Independent Spirit Awards.
Yeoh also landed a Golden Globe and became the first Asian performer to win best performance by a female actor in a leading role at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards.
The 60-year-old said: “This is not just for me, this is for every little girl that looks like me.
“Thank you for giving me a seat at the table because so many of us need this. We want to be seen, we want to be heard.”
Best Supporting Actress
Kerry Condon took this award at the Baftas for The Banshees Of Inisherin and is quoted at 19/10 second favourite to add an Oscar to her CV.
Reflecting on why her role of Siobhan resonated with so many people, she said: “I hope it’s because she was able to be kind to somebody who annoyed her and I think it’s because she was evolved.
“And I think maybe because she showed a lot of inner strength and a lot of sadness that people experience, and also that a lot of her life is taking care of her brother or taking care of somebody else.
“I think a lot of women sacrifice their lives for their children or for their husbands, or whoever.”
Condon appears to have two main rivals in this category, both of which are veteran American superstars.
Angela Bassett receives just her second Oscars nomination in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, having been up for best actress in What’s Love Got To Do With It way back in 1993.
The 60-year-old is the 23/20 favourite here on the back of her success at the Golden Globe Awards.
Jamie Lee Curtis won a Bafta for Trading Places in 1984 and the 64-year-old is 2/1 to be successful with her first Oscars nomination for Everything Everywhere All At Once.
