Rafael Nadal has been relentless in his pursuit of a fourth US Open title and we can’t see Daniil Medvedev standing in his way at Flushing Meadows.
The Russian has been ultra-consistent over the past couple of months but was demolished 6-3 6-0 by Nadal in a recent Montreal decider.
On that evidence, 4/5 for the Spanish superstar to prevail in straight sets again here has to be our opening Nadal vs Medvedev prediction.
A Look At Rafael Nadal’s Betting Odds
Nadal’s form at grand slam tournaments has been superb again this season, reaching the Australian Open final, winning a 12th French Open and making the last four at Wimbledon.
He returned from a month off to cruise through the Rogers Cup in Canada and has continued in the same vein in New York.
Marin Cilic did take a set off him at the last-16 stage, but the 33-year-old has since crushed Daniel Schwartzman 6-4 7-5 6-2 and Matteo Berrettini 7-6 6-4 6-1.
After the latest triumph, Nadal said: “First set was a little bit frustrating, I had a lot of break points and you don’t want to be in a tie-break with a player like Matteo.
“In the tie-break, I was a bit lucky but I survived. Finally, I had a break in the second and the match completely changed. I’m super happy to be back in the final of the US Open.
“Daniil is one of the most solid players on the tour, he’s making steps every week and he had an amazing summer. He will be the toughest opponent and I will need to play my best.”
Nadal, who will move to within one major title of Roger Federer’s record tally of 20 if he can overcome Medvedev, constantly put pressure on Berrettini’s serve in the semis.
The way he goes for the jugular once getting on top makes 5/4 for him to win at least eight more games than his opponent catch the eye from the Nadal vs Medvedev odds.
A Look At Daniil Medvedev’s Betting Odds
After losing out in Washington and Montreal finals, Medvedev went on to beat Novak Djokovic on route to lifting the trophy in Cincinnati, so his overall form warrants respect.
At Flushing Meadows, he has only been workmanlike, though, dropping a set against Hugo Dellien, Feliciano Lopez, Dominik Koepfer and Stan Wawrinka.
The 23-year-old has had a frosty relationship with the New York crowd after he became the villain of the piece in the third round.
Medvedev snatched a towel from a ballboy and then gave the crowd the middle finger, before goading them in his post-match interviews throughout the fortnight.
After beating Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 6-4 6-3, he insisted: “I have to say I love the USA! I want to be a better person than I was for a few days here.”
However, Dimitrov did have chances to win the opening set before succumbing to Medvedev’s steady defence, which will not be enough to repel Nadal, in our opinion.
Let’s finish off our Nadal vs Medvedev betting tips by taking 17/5 for the Spaniard to take the first set 6-3.
