The UK Championship is rated second only to the World Championship in terms of prestige on the snooker calendar and we’re taking two players against the field in the outright winner market.

Ronnie O’Sullivan heads into the York tournament as 4/1 favourite and is sure to be popular following a recent Shanghai Masters success.

Defending champion Mark Selby can be backed at 9/2 and is also in form after landing the International Championship in China.

However, we’re looking for a bit more value in our UK Championship snooker betting tips:

NEIL ROBERTSON @ 18/1

The 35-year-old Australian has found the Barbican Centre a happy hunting ground in the past, lifting this trophy two years ago and in 2014.

Robertson hasn’t added to his silverware collection so far this season, but he has reached at least the third round in each of his last five events.

The former World Championship winner enjoys the longer format and seems satisfied with his form.

“I’ve been quite unlucky in some matches, losing some deciders in the last 16, but that’s what happens,” declared Robertson. “I just have to keep knocking on the door.”

YAN BINGTAO @ 28/1

The Chinese prodigy is just 17 but became the youngest player to win the Amateur World Snooker Championship back in 2014.

After making a solid transition to the main tour last term, Yan has really caught the eye this season with his discipline and dedication.

A semi-final appearance at the recent International Championship highlighted his progress and Yan was only denied 9-8 by Mark Williams in the Northern Ireland Open decider last time out.

Williams is now a fan, commenting: “I chucked everything at him and he didn’t even look like missing. I’m just glad by the time he’s 25, I’ll be retired.”
