Lightning to beat Penguins by exactly 3 goals @ 17/4

Two-time defending Stanley Cup champions Tampa Bay have been hit hard by the salary cap but can remain a major force, according to our NHL betting tips.

Losing their entire third line from last season’s triumphant run will be tough to absorb, but they should still have enough in reserve to contend for the three-peat.

A full season of the dynamic Nikita Kucherov will help to make up for those losses and having the best goaltender in the world in Andrei Vasilevskiy will always be a boost too.

The Penguins will start the new campaign without star attractions Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin and look set for a season-long battle just to make the play-offs.

Golden Knights -1.5 goals vs Kraken @ 11/10

Seattle have been handed a tricky first game in their franchise history as they travel to face Vegas Golden Knights, who are Pacific Division favourites in the NHL odds.

With goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury departed for the Chicago Blackhawks, the load in the Vegas net will fall on Robin Lehner.

However, the Knights, who were beaten in the Stanley Cup semi-finals last season, should have too much firepower for the new boys, with Mark Stone again likely to lead the offence.

The Kraken’s strength lies in their defence and goaltending and with expansion selections Mark Giordano, Jamie Oleksiak and Adam Larsson on the blueline alongside former Colorado Avalanche goaltender Philipp Grubauer, they will be a tough nut to crack.

That means the Knights will not have everything their own way, but they are still a percentage pick to claim a convincing victory.
