James was clearly keen to put rookie sensation Zion Williamson in his place when posting a season-high 40 points and eight rebounds versus the Pelicans.
Anthony Davis was another to shine against his former team, with 21 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots.
However, James will rest a groin problem at Chase Center and there is also a slight question mark over Davis, due to a sore elbow.
The Lakers should still have enough strength in depth to grind out a 25th away win of the campaign, with only five defeats suffered on the road this term.
