The excitement of the NBA season continues into night two when there is a huge Atlantic Division clash at the Wells Fargo Center between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics.
Boston took the four-game series 3-1 during a productive season as they made the play-offs alongside Philadelphia but both crashed out at the Eastern Conference semi-final stage, with the Celtics falling to the Milwaukee Bucks and the 76ers succumbing to eventual champions the Toronto Raptors.
The Celtics came out on top in their recent NBA Las Vegas Summer League clash in July, but we expect the hosts to start their campaign with a win at 12/25 in our opening Celtics at 76ers prediction.
A look At Philadelphia 76ers’ Betting Odds
Philadelphia were seen as dark horses during the back-end of last season after the acquisition of Tobias Harris from the Los Angeles Clippers to give their star-studded team even more balance.
With superstar Joel Embiid dominating the front court and Australian Ben Simmons dictating play at the back, Harris brought more size to the 76ers’ starting five as they pushed towards their first NBA title in 36 years.
The trio remain in Philadelphia, with five-time NBA All-Star Al Horford joining the ranks which could see 6ft 10in Simmons become a regular guard position for the 76ers in a similar line-up as the Milwaukee Bucks, who have NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo at point guard.
Horford will be desperate to be on the winning team after swapping Boston for Philadelphia, who are among the favourites for the Eastern Conference this season.
With all these big men on court, defence usually comes out on top in this fixture so, looking at the Celtics at 76ers odds, we are backing 11/50 for there to be under 226.5 total match points.
A look At Boston Celtics’ Betting Odds
The Celtics will be looking to bounce back from their comprehensive 4-1 NBA play-off defeat to the Bucks last campaign and lay down a marker with victory over one of the pre-season favourites for the Eastern title.
Boston have lost star man Kyrie Irving, who left for the Brooklyn Nets over the post-season, but replaced him with Kemba Walker from the Charlotte Hornets after producing some of his best stats of his career last season.
Walker started all 82 regular-season games for Charlotte with a points average of 25.6 per game and there is plenty of optimism that the point guard can work his magic to get Gordon Hayward back to his sparkling best.
Hayward suffered a fractured tibia and dislocated ankle just six minutes into his Celtics debut two years ago, returning to the court one day shy of a year to the date of the horrific injury and mainly coming off the bench for the remainder of the 2018 campaign.
The small forward played 72 matches last season but produced his lowest points average since his rookie year and admitted the serious injury was still affecting his all-round game.
This could play a major factor here and we reckon the home team can come away victorious by six points or more, priced at evens, as we complete our Celtics at 76ers betting tips.
