3.50 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint
Following a frustrating run of near-misses, FRANK’S ROCKETTE was given a confidence booster when scoring smoothly at Charlestown in August and has since been laid out for this step back up in class. Keeping her fresh could pay dividend.
4.29 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint
Nunthorpe winner Highfield Princess will hope to pick off trailblazer Golden Pal late on but we feel Wesley Ward’s second string CAMPANELLE is also worth considering for each-way Breeders’ Cup bets. He is well drawn, battle hardened and has Frankie Dettori on board.
5.10 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile
PIPELINE has had a nice break since finishing a fair third behind Cody’s Wish in the Forego Stakes at Saratoga and has past history of impressing after being allowed to recharge his batteries, while Chad Brown often throws up a big-priced contender.
5.50 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf
Trackside reports suggest that NASHWA has taken the journey over from Newmarket in her stride and she is backed to provide Hollie Doyle with another memorable triumph in our Breeders’ Cup tips.
The pair teamed up to land the Prix de Diane and the Nassau Stakes this year and trainer John Gosden is hoping for more elite-level glory.
“She’s in good form, looks great in her coat and has Hollie on board, who is the first lady rider to win a (European) Classic and a very talented horsewoman who reminds me of Julie Krone with that massive determination,” said Gosden.
“It’s a big leap for Hollie to come in from Japan, where she is the only female rider, but it just shows us how she can adapt to anything and I’m hoping she can do it here on Saturday.”
6.30 Breeders’ Cup Sprint
JACKIE’S WARRIOR flopped when odds-on for this race 12 months ago and was also a beaten Breeders’ Cup favourite as a juvenile in 2020 but we reckon she can make it third time lucky. Steven Asmussen’s star performer has won 12 of her other 15 races.
7.10 Breeders’ Cup Mile
European raiders have a fine record in this turf contest, with Miesque and Goldikova multiple winners and the two most recent victors coming across the Atlantic.
Charlie Appleby’s MODERN GAMES has already proved he travels well by landing the Juvenile Turf last year, plus the French 2,000 Guineas and the Woodbine Mile at the top level this term.
Appleby believes his charge is none the worse for finishing second in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on unsuitable ground and, after being “delighted” with his prep work in America, commented: “He’s a very good horse who just goes out there and tries.”
7.55 Breeders’ Cup Distaff
Nest is seeking a four-timer but has been an uneasy favourite this week, so let’s take a chance on CLAIRIERE bouncing back to form following a below-par effort at Saratoga in August. She had previously beaten Malathaat twice.
8.40 Breeders’ Cup Turf
This is another top target for European trainers, who have been responsible for six of the past seven winners and return with a strong hand again.
Appleby prevailed last year with Yibir and his NATIONS PRIDE is no stranger to American racegoers, having won the Saratoga Derby and a subsequent Grade Three at Belmont in impressive fashion.
“I think Nations Pride is a very slick individual who brings experience of US racing to the table,” Appleby said. “Rebel’s Romance is a solid mile-and-a-half horse, but he does not have the same level of acceleration as Nations Pride.”
9.40 Breeders’ Cup Classic
FLIGHTLINE has been hailed as a wonder horse after winning all five of his races so far, with the latest victory being a spectacular success in Grade One company at Del Mar by just shy of 20 lengths, for which he was given the highest ever rating awarded to a runner on the dirt.
Such has been the dominant manner of his displays, many other potential contenders have been scared off and it will be a major surprise if he doesn’t do the business on this biggest of stages.
