Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin do battle again in Las Vegas this weekend for the third and likely final time.

As we explain in our in-depth Alvarez vs Golovkin infographic, the pair have met twice before, firstly in 2017 when the outcome was a split draw and again in 2018 when Alvarez got the decision from the judges.

Golovkin is now aged 40 heading into the trilogy fight and his best days are surely behind him so Alvarez looks a worthy favourite and is fancied at 2/9 to win again as our opening Alvarez vs Golovkin III prediction.

Canelo Alvarez Odds

Alvarez heads into the trilogy fight in the unusual position of having lost his previous contest.

The Mexican stepped up to light-heavyweight to face Dmitry Bivol in May and suffered only the second loss of his 61-fight career, losing a unanimous points decision.

He may have bitten off more than he could chew there but Golovkin does not pose the same sort of threat as the larger Bivol so we’re not too concerned by that setback as he reverts to super-middleweight.

Alvarez has looked in great shape and been the busier of the two fighters since their second meeting.

He may have been fortunate with the decisions of the judges in previous encounters but that could well be the case again this weekend.

Looking at the Alvarez vs Golovkin III odds, we like evens for the favourite to get the decision again.

Gennady Golovkin Odds

Golovkin can count himself unfortunate not to have won either of the first two meetings but has had to wait four years for a chance of revenge.

That will not have done him any favours considering he either needs the judges to be more favourable or to find some sort of improvement.

That seems a tall order at the age of 40 and he has only fought four times since the second meeting with Alvarez.

If the Kazakh has learnt anything from the previous fights it is that getting the judges to go against Alvarez in Las Vegas is highly unlikely.

He will surely need to knock his opponent out if he is to emerge victorious so GGG may have to go for broke in the closing stages.

We’ll have a small saver on Golovkin winning in round 12 at 80/1 as the last of our Alvarez vs Golovkin III betting tips but we expect Alvarez to have his arm held aloft when the decision is made.
