Toronto Maple Leafs vs Tampa Bay Lightning predictions

Face-off: 1900 ET, 09/12/2021

Venue: Scotiabank Arena

Toronto will be looking for a fourth straight head-to-head win over Tampa Bay, having beaten them twice last season and again just over a month ago.

The Lightning have looked good of late but this will make it seven games in different cities and that could also take a toll on the visitors.

We reckon 2.25 for a home win in regular time is a percentage pick for our Toronto Maple Leafs vs Tampa Bay Lightning predictions.

Toronto Maple Leafs Odds

Toronto are a close third in the Eastern Conference after hanging on for a 5-4 triumph over Columbus at Scotiabank Arena.

Morgan Rielly had four assists as the Maple Leafs led 5-1 at the end of two periods, before the Blue Jackets fought back.

He said: “We’re happy with the result, but the process needs some work, especially late – the entirety of the third with the exception of a couple of minutes.

“To come back after a back-to-back trip and have a home win, that’s great, but we need to support our goalie a little bit more at the end.”

Auston Matthews netted twice in that contest and has now scored in seven straight matches, so NHL odds.

Tampa Bay Lightning Odds

Tampa Bay are two points back in fifth but have played a couple of games less and head into this clash on a four-match winning streak.

The two-time defending Stanley Cup champions finished strongly to edge out last season’s beaten finalists Montreal 3-2 at Bell Centre.

Corey Perry levelled things up at 17:51 in the third period and then Ondrej Palat grabbed a dramatic decider with less than 40 seconds left on the clock.

“It wasn’t our best game,” admitted Palat. “It wasn’t a perfect game, but we have two points on the road, so I’ll take it.”

The Lightning were given the run-around at times by a Canadiens outfit which has been struggling this term, so Toronto will have spotted some chinks in their armour.

Games between these teams are usually tight, though, and 8.25 for the hosts to shade it by just one goal in regular time completes our NHL predictions here.
