San Jose Sharks vs Vancouver Canucks predictions

Face-off: 2230 ET, 16/12/2021

Venue: SAP Center

Bruce Boudreau’s arrival has transformed Vancouver into a winning machine and they look worth following again when visiting San Jose.

The Canucks will travel to SAP Center on the back of five straight home wins and also prevailed in their last couple of road games.

Punters can get 2.1 on the money line for the hot streak to continue and we’re lumping on in our San Jose Sharks vs Vancouver Canucks predictions.

San Jose Sharks Odds

San Jose are still three points above Vancouver in the Pacific Division and have a game in hand but their form has been up and down this month.

Tuesday’s disappointing 3-1 home defeat by Seattle made it 3-4-0 for December and 2-2-0 in a current homestand, which will eventually stretch to seven matches.

That game was goalless until the third period and Logan Couture’s strike proved in vain as 33 saves from Chris Driedger helped the Kraken to oblige.

“It was a frustrating game,” commented head coach Bob Boughner. “We knew they work hard and have a balanced line-up. We just couldn’t generate enough.

“Any time you’re not scoring a goal until you pull the goalie, it’s going to be a tough way to win a hockey game.

“You almost have to play perfect on the other side of the puck. I don’t think we played bad defensively, but we opened it up to give them some chances.”

Both of these teams are at the wrong end of the table in terms of first-period goals, with San Jose on 19 and Vancouver just 16.

Looking at the 1.8 for under two goals to be scored in the opening stanza has obvious appeal.

Vancouver Canucks Odds

Vancouver have developed a happy knack of shading close contests since Boudreau stepped in to replace Travis Green.

In their last four fixtures, the Canucks picked up a couple of shootout wins before beating Carolina 2-1 and Columbus 4-3.

Tuesday’s triumph highlighted the change in culture at the club, with Vancouver recovering from a 3-0 first-period deficit to clinch victory with 59 seconds left in the third.

Captain Bo Horvat bagged a brace of goals, including the dramatic late decider, and declared: “I just think we believe in each other.

“A lot of guys are playing good hockey. Obviously, there’s just a new life, a new energy in the room and it’s showing on the ice. I just find this team right now has no quit.”

The rebuilding process has continued with the appointment of Derek Clancey as assistant general manager.

“Derek has excellent experience and has played an important role on three Stanley Cup winning teams,” said interim GM Jim Rutherford.

“He will be a key member of our leadership team as we create a progressive, collaborative hockey operations group that can support our team and players at all levels.”

As the old saying goes, success breeds success, so we’re taking 8.25 for the Canucks to win by one again in our NHL predictions.
