San Jose Sharks vs Calgary Flames predictions

Face-off: 2230 ET, 07/04/2022

Arena: SAP Center

Calgary have established a comfortable lead at the top of the Pacific Division but will still head to San Jose with a point to prove.

The Flames have lost all three previous meetings with the Sharks this season and should be determined to avoid a clean sweep at SAP Center.

We’re taking 2.2 for the fired-up visitors to win and over 5.5 goals in the game in our San Jose Sharks vs Calgary Flames predictions.

San Jose Sharks Odds

San Jose are second from bottom and a whopping 36 points behind their visitors in the table after going four games without a win.

To be fair, the Sharks have not thrown in the towel, though, only going down 5-4 here to Dallas on Saturday and 2-1 in overtime versus Edmonton a couple of days ago.

Tomas Hertl scored late on in the first period against the Oilers and San Jose held onto their lead until over halfway through the third.

Coach Bob Boughner said: “That’s one of our best, most solid games in a long time – and a little bit the story of our year.

“We had so many chances, but their goalie plays great and you can’t get that second goal that you need to change the whole face of the game.

“But I will say, looking at the game itself, we did so many great things and that’s encouraging.”

The Sharks should again have their moments here, but we still believe Calgary will arrive fully focused and are a cut above if at their best.

Looking at the 2.9 for the visitors to prevail in regular time and both teams to score at least twice.

Calgary Flames Odds

Calgary are on the third leg of a four-match road trip and it has been a profitable journey so far, winning 3-2 at Los Angeles and 4-2 at Anaheim.

Michael Stone celebrated his 500th NHL game with a goal and an assist as the Flames came through a decent work-out against the Ducks last night.

Elias Lindholm, Tyler Toffoli and Matthew Tkachuk also netted, while Jacob Markstrom made 26 saves at Honda Center.

Johnny Gaudreau followed up two goals and an assist versus the Kings by helping to set up another couple more goals, reaching 97 points for the season.

“He was very good again,” beamed coach Darryl Sutter. “He was the best player on the ice, that’s for sure.”

Gaudreau had a career high of 99 points during the 2018-19 campaign and is on course for a maiden century this term.

San Jose will show spirit, yet it could be a case of them being game but outgunned if the Flames go all out to end this season’s hoodoo.

Let’s add 6.5 for an away win by any two-goal margin to our NHL predictions.
