San Jose Sharks vs Calgary Flames predictions

Face-off: 2230 ET, 07/12/2021

Venue: SAP Center

San Jose beat Calgary 4-1 in Canada last month to make it three wins from the last four head-to-head meetings between these teams.

The Flames have fared better since that encounter but we still feel the Sharks are a value bet to come out on top again at SAP Center.

Punters can get 2.25 for a home success on the money line and that is tempting enough to open our San Jose Sharks vs Calgary Flames predictions.

San Jose Sharks Odds

San Jose began this month by completing a hat-trick of road victories but have since suffered back-to-back defeats.

The Sharks were shaded 1-0 away to the New York Rangers and then went down 6-4 at Columbus to fall to 13-11-1 for the season.

Travelling to five different venues in eight days has to take its toll, though, and this is a chance to start a seven-game homestand in style.

“It could have been a great trip,” said forward Tomas Hertl. “We still got six points but I think we should have had eight.”

Head coach Bob Boughner added: “We played pretty good on the road trip but tonight it got away from us. It’s unacceptable.”

On the plus side, Brent Burns ended a 15-game goal drought while Andrew Cogliano returned after missing three games for personal reasons and had an assist.

When San Jose do well, it is usually in tight tussles so 3.6 for them to win and under 5.5 goals catches the eye.

Calgary Flames Odds

Admittedly, Calgary are top of the Pacific Division, eight points clear of fifth-placed San Jose.

However, they are coming off a 3-2 loss in Las Vegas, where the scoreline could have been worse but for Jacob Markstrom being excellent in goal.

Andrew Mangiapane and Elias Lindholm netted for the Flames but they generally struggled to create chances.

Head coach Darryl Sutter said: “They’re a little more battle-scarred than our group at the top end of their line-up and that was probably the difference.”

The Sharks will have to be wary of Mangiapane, who has scored a league-high 16 times on Calgary’s travels.

However, the final match of a four-game road trip is always hard, so 2.9 for San Jose to win the third period appeals.
