New York Rangers vs Toronto Maple Leafs predictions

Face-off: 1930 ET, 19/01/2022

Venue: Madison Square Garden

New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs have already been involved in a couple of close encounters this season and another looks on the cards.

The action switches from Scotiabank Arena to Madison Square Garden but more of the same is expected between two evenly-matched outfits.

Punters can get 4.1 for overtime to be required in the Big Apple and that is tempting enough to feature in our New York Rangers vs Toronto Maple Leafs predictions.

New York Rangers Odds

The Rangers won 2-1 in overtime when these sides met in October, but the Maple Leafs shaded it by the same scoreline in regular play a month later.

On overall standings this season, they are again hard to split, with the Rangers three points and three places better off in fourth, but Toronto having three games in hand.

Since the winter break, New York have gone 6-3-0 following Saturday’s 3-2 success at Philadelphia and lie second in the Metropolitan Division.

Mika Zibanejad, Filip Chytil and Chris Kreider netted at Wells Fargo Center, while Adam Fox and Artemi Panarin each had two assists.

Head coach Gerard Gallant said: “They played hard, they played a good, consistent hockey game, they played for 60 minutes.

“I was really proud of everyone. We competed and we played well – and everybody chipped in.”

These sides are ranked fourth and fifth in terms of defence this season, so 1.95 for under 5.5 goals appeals from the NHL odds.

Toronto Maple Leafs Odds

Toronto are also in fine form, with a 4-1-1 record since the turn of the year after a thrilling 6-5 success at St Louis on Saturday.

The Maple Leafs are currently third behind Tampa Bay and Florida in a red-hot Atlantic Division and could be right up with the pace if winning games in hand.

There were six different scorers against the Blues, although Auston Matthews warrants a special mention for now netting in 10 straight road games.

After blowing 3-1 and 4-3 leads before eventually prevailing, Mitchell Marner said: “That’s crazy, a roller-coaster ride.

“Obviously, that’s not the game we kind of want to play, but I think we did a great job with just staying with it, making sure we’re doing the right things, no matter what.

“We just kept fighting back. I think we’re all happy with how we finished this game.”

Toronto are rated more likely to stay the course and push for Stanley Cup glory this season, being priced at 9.0 in the outright odds compared to the Rangers at 23.0.

Let’s follow that evidence by finishing off our NHL predictions with 3.1 for an away win and under 5.5 goals, including overtime and penalty shootouts.
