Face-off: 1900 ET, 03/01/2022
Venue: Madison Square Garden
New York Rangers are enjoying a really productive campaign and may just have enough momentum to edge out Edmonton at Madison Square Garden.
The Oilers prevailed 6-5 when these teams met in Canada in early November but close encounters have been going against them of late.
We’re happy to take 2.7 for a home win and over 5.5 goals in the game, including overtime if necessary, to start out our NHL predictions.
New York Rangers Odds
The Rangers only had two matches postponed due to Covid issues over Christmas and appear to have benefited from that continuity.
They are a close third in the Metropolitan Division after securing back-to-back wins over Tampa Bay.
Following a 4-3 shoot-out victory in Florida, last night’s 4-0 triumph in the Big Apple helped us to land a 5.2 treble in our Sunday NHL picks.
Mika Zibanejad hit a hat-trick, Ryan Strome also scored and Igor Shesterkin made 38 saves in a fine all-round display.
There were a couple of hiccups, with forward Artemi Panarin lost to Covid protocols and defenceman Patrik Nemeth absent for personal reasons.
However, head coach Gerard Gallant said: “All of our players stepped up. The best player was really good, obviously, but all of our players stepped up.”
Edmonton may provide more of an attacking threat here, but 3.4 for the Rangers to win and both teams to score at least twice appeals from the NHL odds.
Edmonton Oilers Odds
Edmonton have gone three games without a win since an 11-day break during the festive period, being twice shaded in overtime by Metropolitan Division strugglers over the new year.
The Oilers went down 6-5 in New Jersey on Friday and were then edged out 3-2 by the New York Islanders the following day.
Head coach Dave Tippett tried to remain positive, commenting: “That’s a hard turnaround when you have back-to-backs in the afternoon.
“Our guys competed hard right until the end. You could tell we were tired a little bit in the third period but we hung in there.
“I give our guys a lot of credit. They competed hard, they played a style that we had. We tried to give ourselves a chance to win.”
High-scoring duo Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl always command respect, but assist king Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is proving a big loss to injury.
Edmonton have only beaten two moderate teams in Columbus and Seattle in their last 11 matches, going 2-7-2.
Let’s finish off our New York Rangers vs Edmonton Oilers predictions by taking 7.5 for the hosts to win by one in regular time.
