Edmonton Oilers vs Boston Bruins predictions

Face-off: 2100 ET, 09/12/2021

Venue: Rogers Place

The pressure is mounting on Edmonton after three straight defeats but we’re not ready to desert them ahead of tonight’s home clash with Boston.

When these teams met at TD Garden last month, the Oilers secured a 5-3 success and the hope is that they can confirm that superiority.

Punters can get 2.25 for Dave Tippett’s side to prevail in regular time and that heads up our Edmonton Oilers vs Boston Bruins predictions.

Edmonton Oilers Odds

Edmonton failed to take advantage of any of their five power plays when losing 4-1 to Minnesota on Tuesday, having previously gone down to Seattle and Los Angeles.

The Oilers outshot the Wild 29-16 from the second period onwards but goaltender Cam Talbot was in inspired form against his old club, ending up with 38 saves.

Head coach Tippett insisted Edmonton had performed with credit against red-hot opponents, declaring: “Way more energy tonight.

“We had way more energy in our legs, way more determination on battles and getting to the net.

“We didn’t get rewarded for it, but that’s a step in the right direction.”

Minnesota have now won seven straight, so there was no disgrace in that display and Edmonton just need to sharpen up going forward.

Looking at the NHL odds here, we think the Oilers can show their true worth and win by three goals at 6.25.

Boston Bruins Odds

Boston won’t just roll over, judged on overtime losses to Tampa Bay at home and Vancouver away.

However, the Bruins didn’t show much of note up front against the Canucks, with Patrice Bergeron only claiming a third-period equaliser on a two-man advantage.

Assistant coach Joe Sacco said: “Frustration can settle in easily on a group.

“What we’d like to see from our group is start shooting the puck a little bit more at certain times during the game.

“There’s certain times where we pass up on shots.”

On the plus side, Bergeron and Brad Marchand do have good past records versus the Oilers, posting 17 points in 22 meetings and 15 in 17 respectively.

Bergeron is 1.57 to get at least one here, but we still prefer 3.1 for a home win and over 5.5 goals in our NHL predictions.
