Senegal were our pre-tournament pick for Africa Cup of Nations glory and are expected to prove too strong for a game, but outgunned Uganda side at the last-16 stage.
The Lions of Teranga are seeking to lift this trophy for the first time and have Liverpool star Sadio Mane in good form heading into the knockout rounds.
Punters can get 31/50 for them to prevail in normal time here and that is our opening Uganda vs Senegal prediction.
A Look At Uganda’s Betting Odds
Having shown some encouraging signs when returning to this tournament for the first time in 39 years in 2017, Uganda have continued on an upward curve in Egypt.
The Cranes kicked off their Group A campaign by beating DR Congo 2-0 and then drew 1-1 with Zimbabwe, with Emmanuel Okwi scoring in both matches.
However, Sebastien Desabre’s little-known squad of players had their limitations exposed when going down 2-0 to the hosts on Sunday.
To be fair, Uganda did give as good as they got for large parts of that contest, with Egypt keeper Mohamed El-Shenawy making a number of solid saves.
A lack of star quality up front is the problem, though, and 11/10 for the underdogs to lose without scoring again stands out from the Uganda vs Senegal odds.
A Look At Senegal’s Betting Odds
Senegal started out in Group C with a smooth 2-0 success versus Tanzania, but a 1-0 loss to Algeria left them with some work to do in the final round of fixtures.
However, Monday’s 3-0 win against Kenya put them back on track, with Rennes forward Ismaila Sarr breaking the deadlock and then Mane hitting a double.
They should have gone ahead just after half an hour, when Abud Omar brought down Saliou Ciss, but Mane’s penalty was weak and Patrick Matasi saved comfortably.
But Sarr opened the scoring after 63 minutes when he fired in from Lamine Gassama’s cross and Mane then capitalised on an error from Musa Mohammed eight minutes later.
Philemon Otieno was dismissed for bringing down Sarr with 14 minutes left and Mane scored from the spot to complete an ultimately convincing victory.
The Lions of Teranga have underachieved in this tournament down the years, but are the highest-rated team in the FIFA rankings this time after showing plenty of promise at last year’s World Cup.
Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye, Cheikhou Kouyate of Crystal Palace and Inter Milan forward Keita Balde feature in a classy set-up.
Let’s finish off our Uganda vs Senegal betting tips by taking 21/4 for the favourites to oblige 2-0.
