Swansea are expected to be the latest team swept aside by the Manchester City machine in Saturday evening’s FA Cup quarter-final tie.
The Blues crushed Schalke 7-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday and are showing no signs of feeling the strain from chasing a historic quadruple.
Pep Guardiola’s side did allow Newport to sneak a consolation goal in the last round of this tournament, though, and this game will be played on another tricky Welsh pitch scuffed up by rugby union players.
That makes 17/10 for an away win and both teams to score tempting enough to be our initial Swansea vs Man City prediction.
A Look At Swansea City’s Betting Odds
Swansea are only a mid-table Championship outfit this term after being relegated from the Premier League last season.
However, they have enjoyed the distraction of this competition, scoring 11 times in victories against Aston Villa, Gillingham and Brentford.
The Swans netted some crackers in a 4-1 triumph over the Bees here last month, with Daniel James’ sensational solo effort being voted the best goal of the fifth round.
Manager Graham Potter said after that display: “It’s a fantastic cup competition and getting this far doesn’t happen too often in Swansea’s history, so we’re looking forward to it.”
Potter will hope to have leading marksman Oli McBurnie back from illness for this clash after sitting out league games versus Norwich and West Brom.
The Scot bagged a brace in round four and has netted 10 times in as many appearances since the turn of the year.
Looking at the Swansea vs Man City odds, we reckon 13/4 for McBurnie to score at anytime is worth a flutter.
Last Swansea line-up: Nordfeldt, Van der Hoorn, Carter-Vickers, Roberts, Naughton, Celina, Dyer, Routledge, James, Grimes, Byers.
Swansea will check on Kyle Naughton (groin/hamstring), while Cameron Carter-Vickers should be available after injury.
Leroy Fer (hamstring) and Joe Rodon (foot) are expected back after the international break, but Martin Olsson (Achilles) is a long-term absentee.
A Look At Manchester City’s Betting Odds
Manchester City enjoyed 4-0 and 5-0 triumphs against Swansea in the Premier League last term and will be taking this tie seriously.
So far in this competition, the Blues have routed Rotherham 7-0, battered Burnley 5-0 and eased past Newport 4-1, although they did only lead 2-1 after 88 minutes at Rodney Parade.
“We will see in May and June how we do, but it is important to be there in all competitions,” commented Guardiola after last month’s trip to Wales.
The Citizens have since lifted the EFL Cup, climbed to the top of the Premier League table and are in the last eight of the Champions League.
It seems nothing can stop their relentless pursuit of silverware and another convincing victory is surely on the cards here.
Gabriel Jesus is expected to fill in for Sergio Aguero again for a fourth straight FA Cup tie, having scored in two of the earlier rounds.
The Brazil striker has netted three times in two past encounters with this weekend’s opponents, so 11/4 for him to break the deadlock completes our Swansea vs Man City betting tips.
Last Man City line-up: Ederson, Walker, Danilo, Laporte, Gundogan, B Silva, D Silva, Zinchenko, Sterling, Aguero, Sane.
John Stones will miss out for City. The England centre-back was an unused substitute against Schalke in midweek but is still troubled by a groin injury.
He joins captain Vincent Kompany, midfielder Fernandinho, left-back Benjamin Mendy, playmaker Kevin De Bruye and goalkeeper Claudio Bravo on the injury list.
West Brom 3-0 SWANSEA
MAN CITY 7-0 Schalke – Sergio Aguero (2), Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Gabriel Jesus
Head-to-head: Man City 5-0 Swansea, Swansea 0-4 Man City, Man City 2-1 Swansea, Swansea 1-3 Man City, Swansea 1-2 Man City
