Senegal vs Tunisia: Lions of Teranga look more solid

Senegal got the nod in our pre-tournament Africa Cup of Nations preview and we’re sticking with them in the semi-finals against Tunisia.

The Eagles of Carthage enjoyed an impressive quarter-final win over Madagascar, but the Lions of Teranga have looked far more solid overall during this tournament.

We’re happy to take Evens for Aliou Cisse’s side to prevail in normal time for our first Senegal vs Tunisia prediction.

A Look At Senegal’s Betting Odds

Senegal had to settle for second spot in Group C after losing 1-0 to Algeria in between a 2-0 triumph over Tanzania and a 3-0 victory versus Kenya.

In the knockout rounds, the Lions of Teranga have secured back-to-back 1-0 wins over Uganda and Benin, being more convincing than the scoreline suggests on each occasion.

Everton’s Idrissa Gueye fired in the crucial goal on 70 minutes against the Squirrels in midweek, when he ran from deep, swapped passes with Sadio Mane and struck from 12 yards.

Liverpool star Mane had two goals disallowed for offside by VAR and missed another couple of good chances, while Benin had Olivier Verdon dismissed late on for a foul on Gueye.

Gueye said: “We managed to dominate, score and win this match. As soon as we scored, we went forward to attack even more, but the main thing for us is the qualification.”

Senegal have employed a high-pressing game which helps them to dictate the pace of play and they appear determined to make up for years of underachieving in this event.

Looking at the Senegal vs Tunisia odds, we like 5/2 for the Lions of Teranga to win by a one-goal margin again.

A Look At Tunisia’s Betting Odds

Tunisia laboured somewhat during their Group E campaign, drawing 1-1 with Angola and Mali before a goalless stalemate against Mauritania.

They then needed penalties to edge out Ghana after being outplayed for long periods in another 1-1 draw, but everything did come together versus surprise quarter-finalists Madagascar.

Goals from Ferjani Sassi, skipper Youssef Msakni and substitute Naim Sliti secured a 3-0 success, while former Sunderland ace Wahbi Khazri put in a superb display.

Head coach Alain Giresse had been under pressure going into that game, but he said: “We’re satisfied with our performance, yet this is not our ambition. We want to do more.”

Despite a shock early exit for the hosts, North African teams seem to have had an advantage in Egypt, so we do expect the Eagles of Carthage to be competitive.

However, preference is still for the Lions of Teranga to win 2-1 at 17/2 to finish off our Senegal vs Tunisia betting tips.
