Newport are back at Wembley once again and looking to go one better than two years ago when they conceded in the last minute of extra time against Tranmere.
This time Morecambe are their opponents in the League Two play-off final, with the Exiles appearing here for the fifth time in less than a decade.
We fear they could suffer more heartache again, though, and fancy the Shrimps to be promoted at 19/20 as our first Morecambe vs Newport prediction.
A Look At Morecambe’s Betting Odds
Derek Adams’ Morecambe were in contention for automatic promotion for much of the season and eventually missed out by just one point.
They were five points clear of the other three play-off teams, though, and won exactly half of their matches on their way to a club-record points haul at this level, so could be forgiven for thinking the final place deserves to be theirs.
A 3-2 aggregate victory against Tranmere saw them clear the first hurdle in the play-offs and they look good value as the slight underdogs at Wembley.
Five wins from their last six matches and scoring 15 goals in the process saw them end the regular season in fine form, although they still had the worst defensive record of all the top 10 teams.
If they are to win promotion to the third tier for the first time in their history, then an entertaining game could be in store and we like a Shrimps win and both teams to score at 9/2 in the Morecambe vs Newport odds.
Last Morecambe line-up: Letheren, Knight-Percival, Lavelle, Cooney, Gibson, Songo’o, Diagouraga, Wildig, Stockton, Mendes Gomes, McAlinden.
A Look At Newport County’s Betting Odds
Newport certainly have plenty of experience of playing at Wembley, having also appeared here in the FA Trophy final, the National League play-off final and an FA Cup replay against Tottenham in recent years.
Mike Flynn’s men effectively denied Morecambe automatic promotion by doing the double over the Lancashire side during the regular season.
The Welsh team were 2-1 winners at Rodney Parade in December and triumphed 3-1 in the return game in March, although the scores were level when Morecambe had a man sent off in both matches.
The contest in March was the first time these teams had been separated by more than one goal in the last 14 meetings, so a close game can be expected.
Newport only managed more than one goal in two of their last 12 games in the regular season, though, and we just think Morecambe have the attacking quality to have the last laugh.
Four of their 10 victories on their travels this season were 2-1, as well as the away leg against Tranmere, so the same outcome again at 10/1 completes our Morecambe vs Newport betting tips.
Last Newport line-up: King, Haynes, Lewis, Bennett, Demetriou, Shephard, Dolan, Sheehan, Hartigan, Collins, Amond.
