SPL Betting Preview – Matchday 10

After a disappointing international break for the national side, Scotland gets back to domestic action with Dundee hosting Inverness, Celtic crossing the city to visit St Mirren, Dundee United hosting Aberdeen, Ross County and Hibernian battling it out in the Highlands and Kilmarnock visiting St Johnstone. Hearts then play Motherwell on Sunday to round off the weekend.

We take a closer look at the key trends in each of this weekend’s games below and new customers fancying any of the tips outlined can register here and back one or more with the free £20 bet on offer with their first deposit.

Friday, October 19th

Dundee v Inverness (7.45pm)

Home win: 11/5   Draw: 23/10   Away win: 21/20

Key stat: The last three games between these two at Dens Park have been scoring draws.

Betting tip: A correct score bet could pay off on Friday and with 2-2 being the result the last two times this fixture has been played, a punt on another 2-2 draw, at 11/1, certainly seems worth a look. The other scoreline from the last three Dundee v Inverness games was 1-1, a scoreline priced at 11/2 this time.

Saturday, October 20th

St Mirren v Celtic (12.30pm)

Home win: 29/4   Draw: 16/5   Away win: 2/5

Key stat: St Mirren have won four home games in a row.

Betting tip: With Celtic coming to town, few would expect the Saints to extend their impressive home run. But with Neil Lennon’s side travelling to face the mighty Barcelona on Wednesday, St Mirren might just make the most of a weakened Celtic line-up. A double chance bet on a home win or draw looks to offer reasonable value at 7/4.

Dundee United v Aberdeen (3.00pm)

Home win: 11/10   Draw: 11/5   Away win: 11/5

Key stat: Third-placed Aberdeen have won three matches on the trot.

Betting tip: Three wins in a row make Aberdeen the favourites in this one and with United not beating an SPL side since August, a 12/5 away win bet comes highly recommended.

Ross County v Hibernian (3.00pm)

Home win: 27/20   Draw: 9/4   Away win: 17/10

Key stat: Ross County have drawn more games than any side in the SPL and are yet to win at home.

Betting tip: The fans at Victoria Park must be getting pretty frustrated as the wait for a County victory on their own patch goes on. County have the most draws in the league but are yet to turn that into a home win and shouldn’t be too optimistic against second-placed Hibs. Back a double chance draw or away win bet at 8/15.

St Johnstone v Kilmarnock (3.00pm)

Home win: 21/20   Draw: 9/4   Away win: 23/10

Key stat: St Johnstone have grabbed the first goal in their last four matches.

Betting tip: The Saints have proved just how important scoring first can be, with their five-game winning streak relying hugely on netting first. Should they get the first goal again on Saturday, you can make the most of it with the 3/4 odds on them to do so.

Sunday, October 21st

Hearts v Motherwell (12.45pm)

Home win: 5/4   Draw: 23/10   Away win: 37/20

Key stat: Motherwell defeated Hearts three times last season.

Betting tip: Unbeaten in seven away matches in the league, Motherwell will be confident against Hearts, who they got the better of three times last year. The Jambos didn’t even manage a goal in those three defeats, making an away win to nil a very tempting bet at 17/5.
