Wales ended their first World Cup game in 64 years with a late equaliser and will hope to take that momentum into their next match against Iran.
England look set to dominate Group B as expected after beating Iran 6-2 and face the United States later in the day but second place is up for grabs and all three teams have reasons to believe they can progress.
That should ensure an entertaining game here so both teams to score and either team to win at 12/5 is our opening Wales vs Iran prediction.
Wales Odds
Wales appeared to suffer from stage fright on their return to the World Cup and were perhaps fortunate to only be 1-0 down at half-time.
Joe Rodon almost headed into his own goal and Josh Sargent struck a post before Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic freed Timothy Weah, who converted in clinical style.
Wales failed to lay a glove on the USA in a one-sided first half but the introduction of Kieffer Moore after the break changed the course of the contest with Gareth Bale’s late penalty rescuing a point and giving us a 5/1 correct-score payout!
Wales boss Rob Page believes his team are still the outsiders to qualify, saying: “Look at the pool of players England have got, it was a big ask for Iran to get anything out of the game.
“England are favourites, USA are second favourites. But there will be a few surprises along the way.
“We’re just planning for a tough game on Friday and that takes us into the last game against England.”
Moore seems certain to start after his impact on Monday and his height is a threat at set-pieces.
Looking at the Wales vs Iran odds, he appeals at 9/5 in the anytime goalscorer betting.
Iran Odds
Iran had little answer to England’s firepower in their opening game but the two goals they scored will at least give them some confidence heading into the two matches which will decide their World Cup fate.
Mehdi Taremi netted a second-half brace to continue the fine form he has shown for Porto this season and suggest Iran can cause problems for their next two opponents, with Taremi a decent shout at 9/4 in the anytime scorer betting.
On the downside, their defending at set-pieces was fortunate to go unpunished especially early on when Rouzbeh Cheshmi wrestled Harry Maguire to the ground.
Subsequent penalties in other games suggest Iran will fall foul of the officials if they continue with such tactics.
With both teams seeing this as their best chance to claim a vital victory, an open game could be in store and both teams to score in the first half at 19/4 completes our Wales vs Iran betting tips.
