Denmark and Spain are level on three points apiece in Group B and a quarter-final against hosts England is up for grabs when they meet in west London. Both teams have lost to Germany and beaten Finland but Spain’s superior goal difference means they have a slight advantage heading into the final match.
Austria and Norway collide in a winner-takes-all Group A clash with a place in the quarter-finals at UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 at stake. After a narrow 1-0 loss to England, Austria beat Northern Ireland 2-0 while Norway were thumped 8-0 by the hosts having opened with a 4-1 win against the Irish.
All four teams can still qualify from Group C heading into the final round of matches at Women’s Euro 2022 but Sweden are very much in the driving seat compared to Portugal. The Scandinavians are second in the table with four points while Portugal have managed just a solitary point.
Netherlands head into their final group game needing a point to guarantee their place in the quarter-finals as they bid to retain their European crown. Four points from their first two games mean the Dutch are top of Group C but all four teams can still qualify for the knockout stage.
Italy made the worst possible start to UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 and will be determined to make amends when they meet Iceland. The Azzurre conceded five first-half goals as they were thrashed by France and are bottom of Group D after Iceland drew 1-1 with Belgium.
England stormed through to the quarter-finals of the Women’s Euro 2022 with a record-breaking victory over Norway as their 8-0 demolition job eclipsed their 6-0 triumph over Scotland from 2017. Northern Ireland won’t be joining them in the last eight after two straight defeats for Kenny Shiels’ side.
France have produced one of the best performances of the Women’s Euro 2022 so far and are firm favourites to follow it up with victory over Belgium. Les Bleues cruised to a 5-1 victory over Italy in their Group D opener against Italy while Belgium had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Iceland.
The Netherlands are seen as realistic contenders for outright glory at the Women’s Euros and will hope to show why in the second round of group games. The defending champions had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Sweden in their opening match while Portugal also have a point on the board in Group C.
European Championship Group C is wide open after the opening two games ended in a draw. Sweden held defending champions Netherlands to a 1-1 draw while Switzerland and Portugal ended 2-2.
Germany started their bid for a ninth European title in ideal fashion as they stormed to a 4-0 win over Denmark at the Brentford Community Stadium. Spain overcame the loss of world player of the year Alexia Putellas and the shock of conceding in the first minute to open their campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Finland.
Denmark and Finland suffered heavy defeats to start their European Championship campaigns and know a win is vital to their hopes of progressing. Beaten finalists in 2017, Denmark were thumped 4-0 by Germany at Brentford while Finland went down 4-1 to Spain at this venue.
France have never quite lived up to expectations on the international stage but head into their Euro 2022 opener with Italy in better spirits. Les Bleues were impressive in qualifying and have rattled off 14 straight wins since losing a friendly to world number one USA 15 months ago.
Belgium and Iceland are the underdogs in Euro 2022 Group D behind France and Italy and a tight tussle is expected when they meet in Manchester. They are evenly matched judged on the latest FIFA rankings, at 19 and 17 respectively, and past meetings have been close encounters.
Northern Ireland showed great spirit in defeat against Norway and can’t be underestimated when facing Austria next up in Euro 2022 Group A. However, Austria took four points off them in World Cup 2023 qualifying via a 3-1 win and a 2-2 draw and may be just too organised.
