Germany v England: Three Lions can roar in Dortmund

Kick Off: 1945, 22/03/2017

Stadium: Signal Iduna Park, Westfalenstadion

TV: ITV

England have enjoyed their most recent trips to Germany and will be seeking a fourth straight away win over Die Mannschaft at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on Wednesday night.

The Three Lions famously prevailed 5-1 in a 2001 World Cup qualifier, they also took a 2008 friendly 2-1 and 12 months ago goals from Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Eric Dier inspired a 3-2 victory after they had trailed 2-0.

England face a tough task on paper this time, but football is played on grass and the visitors appeal at 18/5 to once more rise to the occasion and relish the chance to upset one of their oldest and fiercest rivals.

A Look At Germany’s Betting Odds

Germany are currently third in the FIFA rankings after a typically strong set of results last year, including a run to the Euro 2016 semi-finals before bowing out to hosts France via a 2-0 defeat in Marseilles.

Joachim Low’s side recovered from that setback to start their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign in predictably clinical fashion, beating Norway, the Czech Republic, Northern Ireland and San Marino, scoring 16 goals and conceding none.

Low brought through a number of young players during that good run and declared: “Overall I was satisfied with 2016. We didn’t achieve our goal of becoming European champions, but we showed we are a good team with a good team spirit.”

An experienced spine of Manuel Neuer, Mats Hummels, Sami Khedira, Toni Kroos, Mesut Ozil and Thomas Muller now has fresh legs to support it, with the likes of Leroy Sane, Emre Can and Julian Draxler making this an energetic Germany team.

A Look At England’s Betting Odds

England’s Euro 2016 performance is best forgotten, with only a 2-1 win over Wales offering any cheer in a campaign which ended with lowly Iceland putting the Three Lions and Roy Hodgson out of their misery.

Sam Allardyce came and went after one solitary victory over Slovakia, but Gareth Southgate then steadied the ship with wins over Malta and Scotland and draws with Slovenia and Spain.

The former Under-21s boss can call on plenty of proven performers at the back and there is a vibrant look to the midfield, with the likes of Adam Lallana, Raheem Sterling, Dele Alli, Ross Barkley and Jesse Lingard all in good form at club level, while up front the pace of Jamie Vardy and Marcus Rashford compliments Jermain Defoe’s experience.

Last year’s clash was incredibly open from start to finish and we’re taking 4/5 for both teams to score as one of our Germany v England betting tips.
