Brazil vs Chile: Selecao to ease past ageing La Roja

Kick-off: 0100, 03/07/2021

Stadium: Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos

TV: BBC Digital

Brazil seemed to lack a little intensity during the second half of the Copa America group stage but should be back fully focused for the quarter-finals.

Chile battled hard to progress from their pool but fears remain this ageing side is a fading force in terms of elite-level quality.

We’re going with 19/20 for the Selecao to secure a clean-sheet success for our first Brazil vs Chile prediction.

A Look At Brazil’s Betting Odds

All looked well for the defending champions when they brushed aside Venezuela 3-0 and crushed Peru 4-0 to take charge of Group B.

However, it took a Casemiro header 10 minutes into stoppage time to edge out Colombia 2-1 and Ecuador then held Brazil to a 1-1 stalemate.

That last result saw the Selecao’s 10-game winning streak come to an end, although it must be noted head coach Tite made 10 changes.

Tite did court controversy by questioning whether this tournament should have been switched to Brazil during the current Covid-19 crisis.

He is sure to bring back his big guns for this contest, though, with the victors set to face the winner of Peru vs Paraguay in the semi-finals.

Gabriel Jesus came good in the latter stages when the Selecao lifted this trophy for the first time in a dozen years on home turf in 2019.

Looking at the Brazil vs Chile odds, it is 23/10 for the Manchester City forward to score in a victory for Tite’s team.

A Look At Chile’s Betting Odds

Chile have a proud recent record to uphold in this tournament, having been crowned champions in 2015 and 2016 and reaching the semi-finals two years ago.

La Roja kicked off by coming from behind to draw 1-1 with Argentina and then beat Bolivia 1-0, with Blackburn striker Ben Brereton on the scoresheet.

Eduardo Vargas grabbed his second goal in three games as Uruguay were held to a 1-1 stalemate, which guaranteed their progress.

However, Martin Lasarte suffered his first defeat in seven games as head coach when Paraguay enjoyed a pretty comfortable 2-0 triumph in Brasilia.

Chile fans will hope that was just a blip when nothing significant was at stake but now facing Brazil at this stage is a heavy price to pay.

Claudio Bravo, Mauricio Isla, Gary Medel, Arturo Vidal, Vargas and Alexis Sanchez are not quite the players they were in the past.

We think their current limitations will be exposed here and 5/1 for the Selecao to secure a 2-0 success completes our Brazil vs Chile betting tips.
