Arsenal are already through as Europa League Group B winners and are Dundalk consigned to finishing bottom following five straight defeats. However, the Irish outfit do still have a point to prove here, with the Gunners being the only team to nil them in the pool so far.
With age having already begun to catch up with some of the sport’s superstars, it is likely that we will see a first-time tennis Grand Slam winner in 2021, so we’ve run the rule over the five most likely candidates on each tour based on their recent performances.
Ajax have to beat Atalanta in Amsterdam to qualify from Champions League Group D alongside Liverpool and are fancied to achieve that feat. The Dutch giants have performed consistently well during this pool and deserved more from their two 1-0 defeats versus the table-topping Reds.
Everything is still to play for in Champions League Group B when Real Madrid entertain Borussia Monchengladbach at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano. The Spanish giants could still finish anywhere from top to bottom, while first to third remains possible for their German opponents.
This is the definition of a dead rubber, as Liverpool are assured of top spot in Group D and Midtjylland will finish fourth whatever happens. However, the hosts should be playing for pride and have improved throughout the pool stage, picking up a first point at Atalanta on Matchday 5.
RB Leipzig almost certainly need to beat Manchester United to qualify from Champions League Group H and are fancied to achieve that feat. The German outfit have already accounted for PSG and Basaksehir on home turf and have won all five Bundesliga matches at Red Bull Arena this season.
Barcelona and Juventus have both safely qualified from Champions League Group G but top spot is still up for grabs when they meet at Camp Nou. The Catalan giants are in pole position, leading by three points courtesy of a 2-0 victory in Turin back on Matchday 2, when they were clearly the better team.
Tottenham require just a point to progress from Europa League Group J when visiting LASK and Jose Mourinho is a past master at grinding out such results. Spurs cruised to a 3-0 victory when these teams met in London on Matchday 1, but their hosts are rated a better team than they showed that night.
Celtic are already doomed to dropping out of the Europa League and face a daunting trip to Italy to take on AC Milan this week. However, Neil Lennon will be keen to see some sort of response to his side’s poor run of results when they step out at the San Siro seeking to salvage some pride.
Leicester have already qualified for the Europa League knockout stages, so they may ease off a touch when visiting the Ukraine to face Zorya. However, Brendan Rodgers has some useful fringe players pushing for more game time and they are still fancied to prove a cut above their hosts.
Rangers have built up a ton of momentum this season and can book a place in the Europa League knockout rounds by seeing off Standard Liege. Steven Gerrard’s side prevailed 2-0 when these teams met in Belgium, thanks to James Tavernier’s 19th-minute penalty and Kemar Roofe’s spectacular late strike.
Arsenal may be struggling in the Premier League but Mikel Arteta’s men are sitting pretty in their Europa League pool with maximum points from four games. Rapid Vienna kept their hopes of qualifying alive with a couple of wins over Dundalk but do not usually travel well in this competition.
Lewis Hamilton’s absence has forced a major shake-up in the Sakhir Grand Prix odds and we’re backing teammate Valtteri Bottas to take advantage. The flying Finn has claimed two wins this season and finished second behind Hamilton on five other occasions, so this is an obvious pick in our book.
Manchester United will progress from Champions League Group H if avoiding defeat against PSG and we’re backing them to advance in style. The visitors have been far from convincing both in Europe and on domestic duty this season, so we’re happy to take them on at Old Trafford.
