Odds say Shakhtar will retain Super Cup

The Ukrainian Super Cup has been handed back and forth between Shakthar Donetsk and Dynamo Kiev in recent years, but the betting this time round suggests the Miners will retain the trophy.

Kiev were crowned champions in 2007 and 2009 while Mircea Lucescu’s side lifted the trophy in 2008 and 2010.

However, after romping to the league title, beating the White-Blues by seven points, Shakhtar are favourites to win the cup final.

bwin prices the Miners at 13/20 to secure the win, while the draw offers odds of 5/2 and Dynamo are seen as a 30/10 outside bet.

The match promises to be a display of attacking football, with both sides able to call on the talents of some of the league’s most prolific goal scorers.

Andrey Yarmolenko and one-time Chelsea star Andrej Shevchenko both hit double figures for Kiev last term, with the latter smashing ten goals in just 18 games, while Luiz Adriano top scored for Donetsk with ten converted efforts.

Ex-Arsenal striker Eduardo has also been in fine form of late, chipping in with six goals from 22 games, while Brazilian youngster Douglas Costa could also prove a handful for Yuri Syomin’s men.

Football betting enthusiasts looking to place a wager on the final score of the game could be tempted to look at the previous meeting between the two clubs for guidance.

Doing so shows that Shakthar have had the best of the recent meetings, winning on three occasions and losing only twice.

Last time out, the Miners secured a 2-0 victory and backing the same score this time round can be backed at 25/4.

Before that though, Dynamo smashed three without reply past Donetsk, which could see a lot of attention paid to the 66/1 odds on a 2-0 win for the White-Blues.

Interestingly, each of the last five games between the sides has been won without the losing side registering a goal and with Shakhtar favourites to lift the cup, a number of punters could be tempted to back them to win to nil at 3/2.

One thing is for certain and that is that the game has the potential to be a goal fest. Dynamo were the top scorers in the league last term, averaging two per game, while Shakhtar were not far behind on 1.77.

As such, the 27/4 odds on the game producing three or more goals could tempt a number of the more sensible punters.
