Swindon vs Man City: Blues to overcome Covid outbreak

Kick-off: 2000, 07/01/2022

Stadium: The County Ground

TV: ITV

Manchester City have been hit by a Covid outbreak ahead of their FA Cup trip to Swindon but it is still hard to envisage the Robins pulling off a shock result.

Pep Guardiola will miss the visit to The County Ground, along with at least seven first-team players.

However, the Blues lifted this trophy in 2019 and have since reached the semi-finals twice, so we know they will remain determined to progress.

We’re going with 4.75 for the visitors to prevail by exactly three goals as our first Swindon vs Man City prediction.

Swindon Town Odds

Swindon are fifth in the League Two table and will at least be buoyed by Saturday’s 5-2 triumph over Northampton at The County Ground.

Former Aston Villa trainee Harry McKirdy was on target four times against the Cobblers and Tyreece Simpson completed the rout.

Delighted manager Ben Garner beamed: “It was fantastic and a wonderful way to start 2022 – and we hope we can build on that.

“It was probably the best match of Harry McKirdy’s career, I would imagine.

“He has threatened to do that across the season and we as a team have as well. We could have had eight or nine goals today.

“We were clinical, ruthless and that has given us the world of confidence. We have to build on this now.”

However, the Robins had drawn a blank in their two previous games versus Barrow and Stevenage.

Looking at the Swindon vs Man City odds, an away win to nil is out to 2.05 but will still attract some big hitters, while it is 7.75 for a 3-0 correct score.

Manchester City Odds

City have already claimed eight trophies during Guardiola’s reign, including four straight EFL Cup victories.

After losing out to West Ham in that competition this term, they will no doubt be doubly determined to secure a second FA Cup success.

The Blues were a touch fortunate to make it 11 consecutive Premier League victories via a 2-1 win at Arsenal on Sunday.

They were aided by a soft penalty decision and the Gunners being reduced to 10 men before Rodri stabbed home a stoppage-time decider.

However, the midfielder commented: “They did a great game but we showed our champions personality.

“We’ve learned from the last years you have to push always, no matter what happens.

“We didn’t do a great game but we pushed, we never dropped and we always thought it was possible.”

Relentless is a word often associated with City and they never seem prepared to ease up and coast through a match.

Even with a large number of absentees, the Blues should have the strength in depth to advance.

Assistant coach Rodolfo Borrell, who will take charge of the side in Guardiola’s absence, said: “We are prepared to play the game and mentally we are ready for it.”

Gabriel Jesus could be a player to watch out for, if given the chance to end a seven-game goal drought.

The Brazil striker has enjoyed plenty of success in domestic knockout matches, scoring nine times in 16 FA Cup fixtures and seven goals in 17 EFL Cup ties.

Let’s go with him to break the deadlock in our Swindon vs Man City betting tips.
