Daniil Medvedev has been more impressive than Novak Djokovic at this year’s US Open but it will still take a brave man to oppose the Serbian superstar.
Djokovic is chasing a record 21st major title and a calendar Grand Slam, which began with a 7-5 6-2 6-2 drubbing of Medvedev in the Australian Open final.
The Russian may put up more resistance here but 11/4 for Nole to prevail 3-1 is our first Djokovic vs Medvedev prediction.
A Look At Novak Djokovic’s Betting Odds
Djokovic dropped a set against Kei Nishikori, Jenson Brooksby and Matteo Berrettini and was pushed all the way to five by Alexander Zverev in the semis.
However, that 4-6 6-2 6-4 4-6 6-2 triumph puts him on the brink of becoming the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win all four slams in one year.
As if that wasn’t enough of an incentive, the 34-year-old can also move clear of his great rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the top of the men’s slam count.
“I’m going for a fourth US Open, that’s all I’m thinking about,” declared Djokovic, with a wry smile.
“There is only one match left. All in. Let’s do it. I’m going to put my heart and my soul and my body and my head into that one.
“I’m going to treat the next match like it is the last match of my career.”
Looking at the Djokovic vs Medvedev odds, we reckon 7/10 for Djokovic to do the business by a score of 3-0 or 3-1 is a solid option.
A Look At Daniil Medvedev’s Betting Odds
Medvedev has only dropped one set in five matches so far, against Botic van de Zandschulp in the quarter-finals.
He had previously breezed past Dominik Koepfer, Pablo Andujart and Dan Evans and was again generally dominant versus Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semis.
The second seed’s only scare came in the second set, which Auger-Aliassime served for and had two set points.
But the Canadian fell away dramatically after failing to take them and Medvedev eased to a 6-4 7-5 6-2 victory.
That sent the Russian through to a third grand slam final, having also tasted defeat to Nadal in New York two years ago.
Medvedev promised to adopt a positive approach, declaring: “No matter the score, I’m just going to turn up the heat.”
However, we feel Zverev best summed up Medvedev’s task when saying of Djokovic: “I think mentally he’s the best player to ever play the game.
“Mentally, in the most important moments, I would rather play against anybody else but him.”
Let’s finish off our Djokovic vs Medvedev betting tips by taking 5/1 for the favourite to win the first set 6-4.
