Lewis Hamilton has dominated his home race at Silverstone for the last decade but it is impossible to oppose Max Verstappen in our British Grand Prix predictions.
Hamilton has won seven of the last nine F1 races at the Northamptonshire track and will be roared on by the bulk of the 140,000 crowd on Sunday.
There appears to be no stopping Verstappen, though, as he cruises towards a hat-trick of world championships following last weekend’s victory in Austria.
The double world champion was made to work for his seventh win from nine rounds after he passed Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz on track in Spielberg.
But after manoeuvring himself ahead of both Ferrari drivers, Verstappen raced off into the distance to the delight of his 70,000-strong travelling army from the Netherlands.
He now leads Sergio Perez in the standings by 81 points – the equivalent of more than three victories – but there appears to be no danger of complacency.
When asked about the prospect of taking his third straight title, Verstappen said: “I don’t like to think about that yet.
“I am enjoying the moment, driving with this car, and working with this team. I am just very happy for this weekend and we will turn our focus to the next race at Silverstone.”
A day after taking the sprint race spoils, Verstappen was celebrating his fifth consecutive victory and the 42nd of his career to move ahead of Ayrton Senna.
He even had the luxury of stopping for tyres on the penultimate lap in order to set the fastest lap and take a bonus point.
Verstappen is just 3/10 to extend his winning run in the British Grand Prix odds while he is 9/10 to also record the fastest lap.
He has won 16 of the last 20 races in F1, with Red Bull unbeaten this season as they bid to become F1’s first invincible team.
“We can only take it one race at a time,” said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. “Can we [go unbeaten]? Yes. Will we? Who knows?”
Patriotic punters can back a Hamilton victory at 11/1 but 23/20 for him to finish in the top three is the more sensible option and added to our British Grand Prix betting tips given his record here.
Bwin also offer odds on which drivers will finish in the top 10 and Logan Sargeant may be worth considering.
The 22-year-old American has endured a torrid first season in Formula One but there were signs of improvement in Austria, where Williams introduced a series of upgrades to the car.
Sargeant only had one practice session before the sprint race but climbed from 18th on the grid to finish 13th while team-mate Alex Albon was only just outside the points in 11th.
With three practice sessions ahead of qualifying, there could be more improvement to come from Sargeant, who dominated last year’s Formula 2 race at Silverstone so is familiar with the track.
Albon finished seventh at the Canadian Grand Prix last month so Williams appear to be heading in the right direction ahead of their home race, which is just 27 miles from their headquarters.
This could be the weekend when Sargeant finally makes an impact and 12/1 for a top-10 finish completes our British Grand Prix predictions.
