It was a case of close but no cigar last week as all four of our selections finished in the top 15 at the Masters but outside the money, Phil Casey writes.
There is no rest for the wicked or the PGA Tour, which moves on to Harbour Town in South Carolina for the RBC Heritage and an event headed by world number one Dustin Johnson.
Johnson looked set for a top-five finish at Augusta National until dropping two shots in the last three holes, but is the 8/1 favourite in a field containing 20 of the world’s top 50.
However, Johnson is not well suited to the tricky, seaside venue and small greens and is making his first appearance in the event – due to new sponsor obligations – since consecutive missed cuts in 2008 and 2009.
The preference at the top of the RBC Heritage betting market therefore goes to former champion Matt Kuchar, whose course form since his victory in 2014 reads 5-9-11.
Kuchar was in contention in the Masters after an opening 68 before fading to a tie for 28th, while his lack of wins are a concern, but at 20/1 his price is just about big enough to make him a selection in the each-way market.
Coincidentally, the second of our RBC Heritage betting tips finished alongside Kuchar at Augusta and also at Harbour Town 12 months ago, namely Kevin Kisner.
After missing the cut on his tournament debut in 2011, Kisner’s course form reads 38-2-69-11, with the runners-up finish a play-off loss to Jim Furyk after carding a 64 in the final round. Kisner can be backed in the each-way market at 35/1.
Also available in the each-way market at 100/1 is Players Championship winner Si Woo Kim, who was 14th in 2016 and has shown some encouraging recent form by reaching the last 16 in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and a respectable 24th in the Masters.
And although he is in worse form and half the price, Luke Donald has to be chanced at 50/1 each-way given his record in the event, which includes five runners-up finishes and two third places.
The former world number one is in danger of dropping outside the world’s top 200 but usually overcomes some wayward driving here with his iron play and short game.
