Betting on Ice Hockey in Germany
As we saw during their unexpected run to the silver medal at the 2018 Olympics, Germany is developing a solid and passionate national team capable of competing with the best in the ice-hockey world.
DEL clubs are not allowed to have more than ten non-European players under contract at any one point in time. It's an opportunity for home-grown players to improve by playing alongside good foreign players while they log up playing time.
Due to being a popular sport in Germany, ice-hockey stadiums have large rinks capable of hosting close to fifteen thousand fans, as with teams such as Eisbären Berlin, or Kölner Haie with their famous Lanxess Arena — also used for the finals of the Handball Champions League.
Many cities have established ice hockey teams that play in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga, which is the highest league in the country. You can make your DEL ice hockey bets on our online sports betting platform.
Bet on the German Ice Hockey League
The DEL is composed of 15 teams — the majority of which are located in the south of the country, meaning there are many derbies in Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Most of the DEL matches take place on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
Regular season playoffs take place between September and May. It means that each team plays more than 50 games during the regular season.
Ten teams qualify for the playoffs, with the top six teams advancing directly to the quarterfinals. The playoff format is best-of-five games.
At the end of the regular season, the bottom two teams are relegated to DEL 2.
Recommended betting on the DEL
The type of betting available on ice hockey varies from total goals, the number of goals scored by a team, the number of goals scored for each period and handicap betting.
In the DEL, we recommend betting on the winner of the game, taking overtime and shootout options into account. Ice hockey bettors in Germany have only two betting options open to them, given that there is no option for a draw in ice hockey. If you are someone who likes to follow the action closely, we recommend placing live bets as the ice hockey action unfolds.
