Tiger Woods continues his latest golfing comeback at the Farmers Insurance Open this week, with the 14-time Major winner boasting a remarkable record at Torrey Pines, writes Dave Clark.
Woods’ appearance at the Hero World Challenge late in 2017 was only the second time in two years that he has completed 72 holes of competitive golf after being plagued by a back injury.
The American has won this event seven times and also claimed the US Open when it was staged at Torrey Pines in 2008, a record which will prompt plenty to back Woods at 22/1.
However, preference is for one of the sport’s rising stars in Spain’s Jon Rahm, who is the first selection at 15/2 in our Farmers Insurance Open betting tips.
Rahm is the defending champion following his breakthrough win last year and has added three titles since – including last week’s CareerBuilder Challenge.
Rahm was run close 12 months ago by Justin Rose, and the Englishman can be a contender again at 14/1.
Rose was tied for fourth last year, four shots behind the eventual winner, and with three wins from his last seven starts, comes into the event with some strong form behind him.
American Tony Finau also registered a top-five finish at Torrey Pines in 2017 and he is our third selection at 35/1.
The big hitter has the power to tame any course, but is also a consistent performer, as his streak of 18 consecutive made cuts show.
The 28-year-old has long been expected to become a regular winner on the US Tour, and with many of the game’s big names competing in Dubai, this week could represent a good chance to collect a second career win.
Those looking for a bigger price may want to consider Jonas Blixt at 200/1.
The Swede has finished sixth and 20th on his last two appearances in this event and was tied for second in Australia last month, so also enters the event in good form.
