Vancouver Canucks vs Detroit Red Wings predictions

Face-off: 2200 ET, 17/03/2022

Arena: Rogers Arena

Vancouver are just outside the wild card berths in the Western Conference and really need to beat teams like Detroit at home to move up.

The Red Wings are having a disappointing season and have currently gone six games without a win, picking up just one point in those matches.

We’re taking 2.4 for the hosts to prevail and over 5.5 total goals in our Vancouver Canucks vs Detroit Red Wings predictions.

Vancouver Canucks Odds

Vancouver provided us with a couple of successful selections in our match preview when seeing off New Jersey 6-3 on Tuesday.

Bo Horvat scored two goals and had an assist as the Canucks improved to 7-2-1 in their last 10 outings.

JT Miller provided three assists and has now registered at least one point in 13 consecutive appearances.

Head coach Bruce Boudreau said: “That’s what great players do. Sometimes they’re not totally visually dominant but sometimes they’re just out there doing the right things.

“You put them in the right spots and they take care of business and I think JT and Bo, both are really feeling it in that respect right now.”

Key center Elias Pettersson could return here after sitting out two games with an upper-body injury, so Vancouver are in good shape.

Looking at the NHL odds, we’re siding with Miller to score the opening goal at 12.0 on this occasion.

Detroit Red Wings Odds

Detroit have been outscored 34-15 in their last six outings following Tuesday’s 7-5 defeat at Edmonton.

To be fair, the Red Wings showed plenty of spirit against the Oilers, battling back from 3-0 down inside five minutes to be level at 5-5 in the third period.

Thomas Greiss was pulled off after that early blitz and Alex Nedeljkovic helped to steady the ship, but conceding twice late on left them at 8-17-3 on the road.

“I’ll be honest with you, I thought we did tons of good stuff in this game,” commented coach Jeff Blashill.

“Right now, when teams get chances, the pucks are going in, but we talked about being mentally tough and I thought we were unreal that way.

“I’m proud of the way our guys worked and competed throughout the game – I thought we certainly could have won the hockey game.”

The Red Wings will have a go up front again, but we like 3.0 for a home win and both teams to score at least twice for our NHL predictions.
