Edmonton Oilers vs Detroit Red Wings predictions

Face-off: 2100 ET, 15/03/2022

Arena: Rogers Place

Edmonton are involved in a tight battle for a top-three finish in the Pacific Division and should see off a struggling Detroit outfit on home ice.

The Red Wings arrive at Rogers Place without a win in five outings, with any slim hopes of making the playoffs dwindling with each defeat.

We’re taking 4.2 for the hosts to oblige by exactly three goals in our Edmonton Oilers vs Detroit Red Wings predictions.

Edmonton Oilers Odds

Edmonton have begun a five-match homestand by edging out Washington 4-3 in overtime and then beating back-to-back Stanley Cup champions Tampa Bay 4-1.

The Oilers now have a great chance to kick on when hosting teams ranked 24th, 26th and 29th this week.

Mikko Koskinen made 31 saves against the Lightning and will be back between the pipes hoping to improve on his fine 9-1-2 record over the past couple of months.

Reflecting on Saturday’s success, he said: “I think the way we played, it gives us a lot of confidence.

“We played a really good game, I think one of the best so far in the year, and that gives everyone a boost.

“For me, it feels like we’re playing tighter. We’re taking time and space away, which makes the reads easier for me.

“You kind of knew where the puck was going to go next and that’s been a big part of our game over the last couple of weeks.”

Looking at the NHL odds for this contest, we like 3.1 for Edmonton to win and not concede more than one goal.

Detroit Red Wings Odds

We picked up a nice 4.1 pay-out for backing Calgary to win by exactly three goals when they beat Detroit 3-0 over the weekend.

The Red Wings only managed one shot in the opening period against the Flames and just five after 40 minutes of a laboured display.

To be fair, they were only 1-0 behind at that point and did put up more of a fight in the final stanza, but the Flames then took advantage of Detroit opening up a bit more.

That loss left them at 1-6-1 in their last eight fixtures, being outscored 44-23 in the process.

Head coach Jeff Blashill said: “Is there a mental wear on you when you’ve gone through a tough stretch and you’re looking up in the standings? For sure there is.

“Is that an excuse? No chance. We’ve got to be way more mentally tough than that.”

Rookies Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond have shown plenty of promise, but losing Tyler Bertuzzi to Covid and Robby Fabbri to a knee injury is a big double blow.

Let’s add 11.5 for Edmonton to prevail 4-1 again to our NHL predictions.
