Arena: Scotiabank Saddledome
Calgary have to beat Edmonton on home ice to keep their Stanley Cup hopes alive and are taken to rise to the challenge at Scotiabank Saddledome.
The Flames have suffered three straight defeats since prevailing in Game 1 but will be boosted by being back in front of their own fans.
We’re taking 2.1 for them to win in regular time to kick off our Calgary Flames vs Edmonton Oilers predictions for Game 5.
Calgary Flames Odds
Calgary seemed unsettled by the intimidating atmosphere when losing 4-1 in Edmonton on Sunday and started badly at Rogers Place on Tuesday.
The Flames were 3-0 down after the first period but battled back to be level halfway through the third, thanks to goals from Elias Lindholm, Mikael Backlund and Rasmus Andersson.
Those efforts proved in vain, as the Oilers regrouped to ultimately record a 5-3 success, but Darryl Sutter saw enough to be hopeful of staying in the series.
“I thought we showed a lot of resolve and resilience,” insisted the veteran head coach.
Calgary played better than the scoreline suggested early on and outshot their opponents 32-26 overall.
With the C of Red now behind them, the Flames are fancied to be on fire from the outset.
Looking at the Calgary Flames vs Edmonton Oilers odds, we like 2.45 for the hosts to be ahead after P1.
Edmonton Oilers Odds
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Evander Kane both hit doubles as Edmonton gave us a trio of successful selections in Game 4, including 7.5 for the Oilers to win by two goals.
Zach Hyman netted the other goal, while Leon Draisaitl had three assists and Connor McDavid two, extending his run of multi-point matches to seven.
“When we had the lead and they tied it up, no one panicked and we kept our composure,” stated 40-year-old goalie Mike Smith.
“There has definitely been growth on this team, for sure. There is a confidence this team is playing with that we believe we can do some damage.
“Every game you win, you gain confidence from – and you want to keep that ball rolling and doing the good things that make our team successful.”
However, there is just a feeling that coach Jay Woodcroft has relied heavily on a few key players so far and there may be a need to rotate more on this occasion.
That could open the door for Calgary to claw back a victory, so let’s add 3.3 for the Flames to win in regulation and both teams to score at least twice to our NHL betting tips.
