However, Miro Heiskanen nudged Dallas back in front and Tyler Seguin made sure of the win with a late empty-netter.
Backlund is hoping a return north of the border will help Calgary to come good in the end, though.
He said: “We’re just excited. It’s going to be awesome playing in front of the C of Red again.
“We wanted to finish it last time, but it is what it is and now we’ve got to come out and play our best game so far.”
Nerves will be jangling but Dallas did not travel well in the regular season and the Flames had a far better defence throughout that campaign.

Dallas went into this series as big underdogs but have taken their chances to stretch it this far.
Head coach Rick Bowness said: “I know we’re not supposed to still be playing, we’re supposed to be on a golf vacation right now, but that wasn’t our intention going in.
“As I said right off the bat, we didn’t get into the playoffs to be somebody else’s stepping stone into the second round.
“Here we are going into a Game 7 – and our guys deserve a lot of credit.”
Both teams have managed to stay relatively healthy, but if things tighten up in the decider, Calgary could be better prepared for that type of contest.
