Anaheim Ducks vs Vancouver Canucks predictions

Face-off: 2230 ET, 29/12/2021

Arena: Honda Center

Vancouver return to the ice looking to extend their winning streak under new coach Bruce Boudreau to seven games when visiting Anaheim.

However, the Ducks have surprised many this season to sit ninth overall in the NHL and second in the Pacific Division, already beating the Canucks twice.

Home ice can prove key and we think the visitors’ hot streak will come to an end here, with Anaheim to win by one goal at 7.5 the first of our NHL predictions.

Anaheim Ducks Odds

Goaltender John Gibson has been a big part of Anaheim’s success this season, although he allowed six goals in his last start before the break, a 6-5 overtime loss to the Arizona Coyotes.

However, before that, he only gave up two goals in his previous two games and, although there will be some offence, we think he will backstop a home victory with over 6.5 goals at 4.33.

The Ducks’ powerplay this season has been crucial and 18 goals and 30 points from Troy Terry has led their offence.

We think they will start strong and score the first goal of the opening period at 2.2 in our Anaheim Ducks vs Vancouver Canucks predictions.

Anaheim have not lost the first period in 12 of their last 13 games and that bodes well for them winning the opening stanza here at 2.65.

Missing Trevor Zegras and Max Comtois will be a blow for the Ducks, with both in Covid protocol, but they should have enough strength in depth to edge the victory.

Vancouver Canucks Odds

Vancouver have scored nine times in their last two games and netted at least four goals in four of their past six matches, as their offence has started to click into gear.

We think that will continue in Orange County and NHL odds.

Vancouver have scored a second-period goal in each of their last 11 contests and we think they will again light the lamp in the middle session and win the period at 2.8.

The Canucks are largely unaffected by absentees due to Covid, with only Alex Chiasson in protocol.

They have won eight of their last nine but the extended Christmas break could cool them down.
