Canada vs Mexico: Edmonton stalemate makes sense

Kick-off: 0205, 17/11/2021

Stadium: Commonwealth Stadium

Canada have been on an upward curve for some time now and can give their World Cup hopes another boost by holding Mexico on home turf.

The Cannucks ended a five-match losing run in head-to-head encounters with El Tri when drawing 1-1 at Aztec Stadium last month.

We reckon 11/5 for another stalemate in Edmonton is the way to go with our first Canada vs Mexico prediction.

Canada’s Odds

Canada are unbeaten in seven CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers after edging out Costa Rica 1-0 in front of a big crowd at this stadium.

The Cannucks hit the woodwork twice before Jonathan David pounced on a dropped cross by Leonel Moreira on 57 minutes.

David now has 18 goals in 23 appearances for Les Rogues and is this season’s joint-leading scorer in Ligue 1 for Lille.

Tajon Buchanan also impressed against defensive opponents, while Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies was quiet by his own high standards but is always a threat.

Freezing conditions didn’t help the fluidity of that match, though, and this could be another scrappy contest.

Looking at the Canada vs Mexico odds, we like 27/10 for a draw and under 2.5 goals.

Mexico’s Odds

Mexico surrendered top spot in this qualifying section to USA when going down 2-0 to the Stars and Stripes in Cincinnati.

Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie scored late on as America moved ahead of El Tri on goal difference, with Canada a point back in third.

Napoli front man Hirving Lozano and Jesus Corona of Porto had chances for Mexico in the opening period but it was a deserved success for the USA.

Gerardo Martino may now be looking over his shoulder, with just three points separating Mexico and Panama, who are fourth at the halfway stage and on course for the inter-confederation play-offs.

However, El Tri have reached seven straight World Cup tournaments, so they will hope their experience can pull them through.

Sharing the spoils in Edmonton would not be a bad result and 18/5 for the scores to be level at half-time and full-time completes our Canada vs Mexico betting tips.
