Manchester United have been involved in two dramatic Champions League matches so far and would no doubt love a smooth success when hosting Atalanta.
La Dea currently top Group F with four points, one more than the Red Devils, but may find their first trip to Old Trafford a daunting proposition.
We’re happy to take 4/5 for a home victory as our initial Man Utd vs Atalanta prediction.
A Look At Manchester United’s Betting Odds
United suffered late heartbreak when beaten 2-1 away to Young Boys, conceding a stoppage-time sickener after Aaron Wan-Bissaka had been sent off.
However, the shoe was on the other foot when Villarreal were edged out by the same scoreline at Old Trafford.
Alex Telles struck a superb volley to cancel out Paco Alcacer’s opener on the hour mark and Cristiano Ronaldo was the man on the spot to grab a last-gasp decider in the fourth minute of added time.
“We knew if we didn’t get points it would be tough to go through to the next stage but now everything is possible, everything is open and we believe we will go through,” beamed Ronaldo.
“The fans pushed us a lot, which I have to say thank you to all of them. This is what we need sometimes when we’re a little bit down, when the team is not playing well.
“This is why I come back because I miss this club a lot. I made history in this club and I want to do it again.”
United were grateful to David De Gea for some excellent saves and still have defensive issues but a white-hot atmosphere will test Atalanta’s composure.
A Look At Atalanta’s Betting Odds
Atalanta have been punching above their weight for several seasons now, figuring high up in Serie A and reaching the knockout rounds of this competition twice in succession.
La Dea started out in this pool by drawing 2-2 with Villarreal in Spain and then shaded Young Boys 1-0 on home turf.
Against the Swiss outfit, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side had a goal ruled out for offside before Duvan Zapata teed up Matteo Pessina for the match-winner on 68 minutes.
David Von Ballmoos made two fine stops for Young Boys to keep the score down in a pretty dominant display by Atalanta.
Zapata looks a real handful up front and is sure to give United’s back-line lots to think about.
However, the visitors have been conceding plenty of goals in Serie A and were recently 3-0 down at one point when losing 3-2 to AC Milan in front of their own fans.
Experienced defenders Berat Djimsiti, Rafael Toloi, Robin Gosens and Hans Hateboer have all been hampered by injuries, along with midfielder Pessina.
We’re hoping the prospect of tackling Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Co gets to a patched-up rearguard and 15/4 for the hosts to win both halves completes our Man Utd vs Atalanta betting tips.
Last Champions League result:
MAN UTD 2-1 Villarreal – Alex Telles, Cristiano Ronaldo
ATALANTA 1-0 Young Boys – Matteo Pessina
