Luxembourg vs Scotland: Another boost for Scots

Kick-off: 1700, 06/06/2021

Stadium: Stade Josy Barthel

TV: Sky Sports

Scotland have had an encouraging build-up to Euro 2020 and will be keen to maintain the momentum when facing Luxembourg on Sunday.

Their opponents have shown some improvement in recent years but have lost friendlies to Liechtenstein, Austria, Qatar and Norway over the past 10 months.

Anyone backing the Red Lions to lose and under 3.5 goals would have been paid out on each occasion, so that is our first Luxembourg vs Scotland prediction at 13/10.

A Look At Luxembourg’s Betting Odds

Luxembourg picked up just four points in their Euro 2020 qualifying group, all against Lithuania.

Last year brought a decent showing in Nations League Group C1, finishing second behind Montenegro and ahead of Azerbaijan and Cyprus.

Luc Holtz’s side began their World Cup 2022 pool by upsetting Republic of Ireland 1-0 in Dublin and then even led Portugal before going down 3-1.

The Red Lions rarely seem to roar in friendlies, though, with Qatar beating them 1-0 in March and Norway prevailing by the same scoreline on Wednesday.

Young Boys midfielder Christopher Martins and Dynamo Kyiv’s Gerson Rodrigues stand out in this squad, but the supporting cast is limited.

Looking at the Luxembourg vs Scotland odds, another solid option is 6/1 for the Scots to oblige 1-0.

A Look At Scotland’s Betting Odds

Scotland shrugged off having seven players sidelined due to Covid-19 precautions when securing an excellent 2-2 draw with Netherlands in Portugal.

Steve Clarke’s side led twice through Jack Hendry and Kevin Nisbet, but Memphis Depay’s double levelled things up.

Despite conceding a last-minute equaliser from a dubious free-kick, Celtic’s James Forrest insisted: “There were a lot of positives.

“A couple of debuts in there, myself not being in the squad for a while – all round it was a good night for the manager.

“All the lads that played did really well…and we look forward to the Luxembourg game.”

David Marshall, Stephen O’Donnell, Nathan Patterson, Grant Hanley, John McGinn and Che Adams have since returned to training, with only John Fleck still absent after his positive test.

Scotland were third in their Euro 2020 qualifying pool behind Belgium and Russia before penalty shoot-out wins over Israel and Serbia in the play-offs.

A decent second-place showing behind Czech Republic in the Nations League and an unbeaten start on the road to World Cup 2022 are also encouraging.

The Tartan Army will be hopeful of upsetting the odds by progressing from Group D at Euro 2020, as they perform at a major tournament for the first time in 23 years.

We like 14/5 for Clarke’s men to be leading 1-0 at half-time for our Luxembourg vs Scotland betting tips – and then just see out the second period without any injuries.
