Euro 2020 groups: Best bets from the opening stage

There are some fascinating Euro 2020 groups for punters to dissect and we’ve picked out our best bets from the opening stage of this summer’s showpiece.

Bwin has a wide range of markets, price boosts and special offers on the tournament, which promises to provide plenty of thrills and spills.

Every major tournament has a ‘group of death’ and this is most definitely the toughest section at Euro 2020.

Hungary are expected to be the whipping boys but all three of the other teams are genuine contenders for outright glory.

However, we just feel World Cup winners France are the complete article and can prove a cut above.

Didier Deschamps has winners throughout his squad and 3-0 warm-up victories over Wales and Bulgaria highlighted the confidence and self-belief oozing from this set-up.

By comparison, Germany are inconsistent while Portugal do tend to be slow starters.

We were surprised to see F quoted as 2/1 favourite in this market, with some tight tussles on the cards between the big three.

Group B is headlined by Belgium, who were the leading scorers in qualifying, firing in 40 goals from 10 consecutive victories.

Russia rattled off 33 successful strikes when runners-up behind the Red Devils and have main front man Artem Dzyuba back in favour.

That duo were among the most prolific sides during the 2018 World Cup group stage, with Belgium leading the way on nine and Russia joint-second with England on eight.

Denmark are in great spirits after netting 14 times in three March World Cup qualifiers, so let’s hope Finland also look to have a bit of fun at their first major event.

Italy are the stand-out side in this section following an impressive resurgence under Roberto Mancini, scoring 37 goals and conceding only four in qualifying.

However, the Azzurri may just revert to type now that the pressure is on, especially as they need to make up for missing out on the last World Cup.

Switzerland, Turkey and Wales were among the lowest-scoring teams to secure automatic qualification and all have solid defences.

Given that they seem pretty evenly matched in the battle to follow Italy through, we’re anticipating some cagey contests in one of the closest Euro 2020 groups.
