Manchester United made an unconvincing start to their Europa League campaign and now face a testing trip to the Netherlands.
United scraped a 1-0 win at home to Astana in their opening group game as they returned to the competition for the first time since lifting the trophy two years ago.
The goals are not exactly flowing for United this season and we like the look of under 1.5 goals at 9/4 as our top AZ Alkmaar vs Man Utd prediction.
A Look At AZ Alkmaar’s Betting Odds
AZ Alkmaar finished fourth in the Eredivisie last season and had a solid home record, winning 11 and losing just three of their home matches.
They have taken 10 points from their opening four home fixtures this season and are proving hard to break down, conceding just once in that period and three times in their first eight league games at all venues.
That will be a concern for United, who have too often looked toothless up front, especially having sold Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez without bringing in replacements.
AZ Alkmaar managed a 2-2 draw in their opening group game at Partizan Belgrade despite playing for more than an hour with 10 men.
Calvin Stengs gave them a 12th-minute lead but Jonas Svensson’s red card made their task harder and they went 2-1 down just after the hour, only for Myron Boadu to equalise five minutes later with only Alkmaar’s second shot on target.
We suspect they would settle for a share of the spoils again here and a draw at 9/4 is added to our AZ Alkmaar vs Man Utd betting tips.
A Look At Manchester United’s Betting Odds
United will hardly fly to Amsterdam full of confidence having failed to win on their travels since their surprise victory at Paris St Germain in March.
This season they have drawn at Wolves and Southampton before losing 2-0 at West Ham with a poor performance, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted he is not worried by his team’s travel sickness.
“Why should we as coaches be concerned? We’re looking forward to things, looking for solutions,” said the United boss.
“I’ve never been concerned about anything, really. I don’t walk around and worry about things. Not at all. I’m looking at what we can do to improve. I’ve never been a worrier.
“I think we should’ve won at Southampton, I think we should’ve won the Wolverhampton one. Both should be wins.
“It’s still the same size pitch, green with white lines, some fans. You’ve got to block out the mental part and play as you would in the park.”
We want to see more evidence that United have the firepower to be worth backing, especially on the road, and a 0-0 draw is our final pick from the AZ Alkmaar vs Man Utd odds at 27/4.
Last Europa League result:
Partizan Belgrade 2-2 AZ ALKMAAR – Calvin Stengs, Myron Boadu
MAN UTD 1-0 Astana – Mason Greenwood
