Tottenham need to ensure their season stays on track when they face Sporting on Wednesday night.
Spurs’ defeat to Newcastle was their second in a row to leave them off the pace in the Premier League and they cannot afford to slip up again if they are to progress to the knockout stage of the Champions League.
They will want revenge for their reverse in Portugal and a home win with both teams scoring at 19/10 is our opening Tottenham vs Sporting Lisbon prediction.
Tottenham Odds
Spurs have not looked convincing in certain games under Antonio Conte this season and injuries to key men have hampered their progress in recent weeks.
Following a convincing 2-0 defeat at Manchester United, Cristian Romero and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg missed Sunday’s 2-1 home loss to Newcastle, joining Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison on the treatment table.
Conte said: “For sure there are players that need to rest for two days to recover because we have players who for them this was seven games in a row and we don’t have the possibility to make rotation in this moment.”
Tottenham only just squeezed past Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 at home in their last outing, leaving them needing another win to reach the next stage.
Conte added: “Our target now has to be to try on Wednesday to win the game because to go to the next round is a good opportunity for us.
“I know it will be difficult but we have the possibility to do it and then to try to manage the situation until the last game in November. Then there is the World Cup and we will see what happens.”
That win over Frankfurt followed a goalless draw in Germany and steered them back on track after a shock 2-0 defeat to Sporting.
The Portuguese side have scored in both European away games and Spurs may have to be patient.
A draw at half-time followed by a home win is 16/5 in the Tottenham vs Sporting Lisbon odds.
Sporting Lisbon Odds
Sporting are only one point behind Group D leaders Spurs after winning two and losing two.
They have shown some inconsistency since stunning Conte’s men last month, winning three and losing four of their next seven matches.
Two defeats to Marseille halted their Champions League progress, but they did win at the weekend.
Paulinho, Nuno Santos and Pedro Goncalves struck to give them a 3-1 home win over Casa Pia AC.
Sporting kept Harry Kane in check at home but the striker has netted six times in his next eight games.
The England captain to open the scoring at 13/5 is our final Tottenham vs Sporting Lisbon prediction.
