Celtic cannot qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League but a Europa League place is still up for grabs in their final two matches.
The 2-0 defeat against RB Leipzig two weeks ago left the Scottish side bottom of Group F with one point from four matches and with no chance of making second place following Shakhtar Donetsk’s draw against Real Madrid in Warsaw.
Even finishing third looks a tall order from here but they dominated the away game against Tuesday’s opponents so a home win at 17/20 is our opening Celtic vs Shakhtar Donetsk prediction.
Celtic Odds
The Hoops dominated for the vast majority of the game in the Legia Warsaw municipal stadium last month but had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
The Scottish champions had several chances even before Artem Bondarenko put through his own net in the 10th minute following a penetrating run from Reo Hatate.
Shakhtar equalised out of the blue in the 29th minute after a pass inside Josip Juranovic gave winger Mykhaylo Mudryk a clear run at goal.
Former Celtic winger Marian Shved had a goal disallowed for offside and forced a good stop from Joe Hart as Shakhtar enjoyed a bounce until half-time.
But Ange Postecoglou’s side regained control immediately after the interval and substitutes Giorgos Giakoumakis and Daizen Maeda missed the best of a series of opportunities.
That has been the story of Celtic’s campaign and they have only managed two goals despite creating plenty of chances in each match.
Putting four goals past Hearts in a seven-goal thriller at the weekend should have boosted their confidence at least and bwin’s price boost of 11/4 for a home win and both teams to score catches the eye in the Celtic vs Shakhtar Donetsk odds.
Shakhtar Donetsk Odds
Shakhtar start the night one point behind second-placed RB Leipzig in Group F which looks set to be won by Real Madrid.
They were on the verge of beating the defending champions two weeks ago, only to be denied by Antonio Rudiger’s injury-time equaliser.
That denied Shakhtar a first clean sheet of the campaign but goals have not been an issue with seven scored in their four games.
With a draw of no use to the hosts, an open match looks likely so both teams to score in the first half, just as they did in the previous meeting, completes our Celtic vs Shakhtar Donetsk betting tips at 31/10.
