Celtic edged out Lazio 2-1 in a cracking Europa League contest at Parkhead, but we’re backing the Serie A outfit to claim revenge in the reverse fixture.
The Hoops have a dreadful record when travelling to Italy in UEFA competitions, suffering nine defeats in 12 winless trips to this country.
Neil Lennon has vowed to be positive, but 29/20 for a home win and over 2.5 goals gets the nod as our initial Lazio vs Celtic prediction.
A Look At Lazio’s Betting Odds
Manuel Lazzari fired Lazio ahead in the 39th minute at Parkhead and even Neil Lennon admitted his side were on the ropes at that stage.
“Lazio were superb,” said the Hoops boss. “They had periods in the game where they were the better team.”
Opposite number Simone Inzaghi believes two Fraser Forster second-half saves from skipper Marco Parolo and substitute Danilo Cataldi, as well as a miss from Ciro Immobile, were vital.
He commented: “We didn’t deserve to lose the game, we had more than enough chances to win and if it wasn’t for an incredible save by the keeper, we would have.
“We have seen games like this before when we didn’t put it out of sight. We needed that second goal, if it hadn’t been for two miracle saves and Immobile’s miss, we would have got it.”
The Biancocelesti began their group-stage campaign by losing 2-1 at CFR Cluj, but got back on track when beating Rennes by the same scoreline in Rome.
Serie A top scorer Immobile started against the French side, whereas he has come off the bench in the two away games, so the suggestion is that Inzaghi is targeting home wins.
Looking at the Lazio vs Celtic odds, there is obvious appeal in 15/2 for the Italians to oblige 2-1 and keep that scoreline trend going.
A Look At Celtic’s Betting Odds
Ryan Christie levelled for Celtic on 67 minutes and then Christopher Jullien rose to bullet in a corner in the closing stages to complete a memorable comeback.
That put the Hoops at the top of the Group E table on seven points, having previously drawn 1-1 at Rennes before beating Cluj 2-0 in Glasgow.
Lennon hailed it as “an epic night for the players and the club”, declaring: “There were some great individual performances.
“You can see it’s a bit of a learning curve as well for some of the players. There is some naivety at times in our play.
“But over the piece, to go toe-to-toe with Lazio and come away with three points is a huge shot in the arm for the team.”
He added: “We look forward to the match in Rome now but we know how difficult it will be on the evidence of what we have seen.”
We believe the Hoops will have a go in Italy, but also agree with that last comment from Lennon, so 9/4 for a home win and both teams to score is added to our Lazio vs Celtic betting tips.
Celtic will be without a clutch of players, with right-back Jeremie Frimpong dropping out of the squad as he was not registered for European competition.
Striker Bayo is out for several weeks with a knee injury, while Tom Rogic, Mikey Johnston, Leigh Griffiths and Boli Bolingoli did not travel, with Jozo Simunovic (knee) still out alongside Daniel Arzani (knee).
