Celtic will be looking to take another step towards the group stage of the Champions League when they host Ferencvaros in a one-off game at Celtic Park.
Neil Lennon’s men beat KR Reykjavik of Iceland 6-0 last week but the meeting with the Hungarian champions is unlikely to be so one-sided.
A much more cagey contest is expected and under 2.5 goals at 11/10 is our opening Celtic vs Ferencvaros prediction.
A Look At Celtic’s Betting Odds
Celtic could not have had a much easier task in their first qualifying round as they brushed aside the Icelandic minnows.
Mohamed Elyounoussi broke the deadlock after only seven minutes and Odsonne Edouard pressured Arnor Adalsteinsson into an own goal before Christopher Jullien headed in a third just after the half-hour mark.
Left-back Greg Taylor helped himself to his first Celtic goal early in the second half and Edouard flashed in a fifth, with Elyounoussi grabbing his second in added time to put the seal on a performance that offered no prospect of a shock.
Celtic had to be much more patient at the weekend, though, and needed a late goal from Albian Ajeti to finally break down Dundee United’s defence at Tannadice but Lennon praised the way his side kept going.
“The attitude of the players was absolutely tremendous and you never lose faith in this team,” he said. “They know how to keep going, they kept patient and they got what they deserved.
“It was a good game, it was feisty, it was mentally challenging for the players and they’ve come through that so, psychologically, it will give them a big lift.”
Looking at the Celtic vs Ferencvaros odds, we like 13/4 for the scores to be level at half-time before Celtic take control in the second half.
A Look At Ferencvaros’ Betting Odds
Ferencvaros are 3/1 to go through and 21/4 for victory in 90 minutes but we expect them to be more competitive than the odds suggest.
The lack of fans at Celtic Park will certainly make this a less intimidating prospect for the visitors, who were impressive 2-0 winners against Swedish champions Djurgardens 2-0 in the first qualifying round.
Brazilian midfielder Somalia said: “Without fans it makes our chances level. We have a 50 per cent qualifying chance.
“To play in a mythical stadium like Celtic Park will be magnificent, but this will increase our performance.”
Ferencvaros reached the third qualifying round last season and then dropped into the Europa League where they drew four of their six matches, suffering just one defeat.
They are solid defensively but Celtic should have the quality to make the breakthrough so a 1-0 win at 25/4 completes our Celtic vs Ferencvaros betting tips.
